The historic blue city of Jodhpur is a gateway to the timeless call of the legendary Thar Desert. The impressive Mehrangarh Fort looms large over the horizon, dotted with bright blue homes and is the crown jewel of the city’s many architectural gems. Jodhpur has been a flourishing centre for business and entrepreneurship given it’s strategic location on the historical Delhi-Gujarat trading route and enjoys an eminent position in handicrafts, furniture, and agricultural products industry. More recently, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) has identified Jodhpur as an innovation hub with IIT Jodhpur spearheading the effort. It is in this environment of business and innovation that the creation of School of Management & Entrepreneurship (SME) was approved by the Board of Governors at IIT Jodhpur in December 2019, catering to the demands and needs of future industries.

The sprawling 852-acre IIT Jodhpur campus is a majestic tribute to the deep-rooted diverse cultural heritage of the region. The campus is an architectural masterpiece which is slated to become an international exemplar of sustainability with strategies for ensuring NET ZERO ENERGY, WATER and WASTE. Simultaneously, occupying a place of pride within the campus, SME envisions creating a unique matrix of future possibilities for organizations in the city, state and the country by its stated emphasis on technology, innovation and leadership.

SME has been meticulously planned and envisioned to stand as a symbol of excellence in management education and research. With opportunities arising out of digital transformations in the economy, emerging entrepreneurial culture, and the ever-increasing domestic production and foreign trade opportunities, the SME has been conceived to respond to the need of the hour to herald state of art techno- managerial distinctive capabilities with a deep and wide underpinning of technological prowess. As the evolution of learning and creation of knowledge suggests, a multidisciplinary approach to education has become an indispensable building block towards a fast-paced new age industrial economy of the country. SME aims to play the role of a catalyst by bridging the gap between existing knowledge and the evolving needs of future industries. SME will endeavour to create a new generation of business leaders, who will provide leadership to the evolving paradigm of industry 4.0.
