Breach in password databases has been a frequent phenomena in the software industry. Often these breaches go undetected for years. Sometimes, even the companies involved are not aware of the breach. Even after they are detected, publicizing such attacks might not always be in the best interest of the companies. This calls for a strong breach detection mechanism. Juels et al. (in ACM-CCS 2013) suggest a method called &#x2018;Honeywords&#x2019;, for detecting password database breaches. Their idea is to generate multiple fake passwords, called honeywords and store them along with the real password. Any login attempt with honeywords is identified as a compromise of the password database, since legitimate users are not expected to know the honeywords corresponding to their passwords. The key components of their idea are (i) generation of honeywords, (ii) typo-safety measures for preventing false alarms, (iii) alarm policy upon detection, and (iv) testing robustness of the system against various attacks. Generation of Secure and Reliable Honeywords, Preventing False Detection

In this work we propose an approximation of Gaussian Process and apply it to Classification and Regression tasks. We, primarily, target the problem of visual object categorization using a Greedy variant of Gaussian Processes. To deal with the prohibitive training and inferencing cost of GP, we devise a greedy approach to subset selection and the inducing input choice to approximate the kernel matrix, resulting in faster retrieval timings. A localized combination of kernel functions is designed and used in a framework of sparse approximations to Gaussian Processes for visual object categorization and generic regression tasks. Through exhaustive experimentation and empirical results we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, when compared with other kernel based methods. © 2018 ACM.

Greedy Gaussian Process Regression Applied to Object Categorization and Regression

Heritage represents everything of the past for which we can be proud of today. In this chapter, we introduce the readers to the different categories of heritage as defined by UNESCO. The chapter then discusses the various techniques being developed and different research efforts going on in the world to digitally preserve cultural heritage-both its tangible and intangible aspects. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi in South India, with its historical and mythological significance, deserves preservation in physical and digital space. This book is an outcome of the India Digital Heritage project supported by the Department of Science and Technology of the government of India, focussing on the digital preservation of the heritage of Hampi. It attempts to show how multidisciplinary engagement across technology and humanities can provide significant impetus to the cause of documentation, showcasing and interpretation of cultural heritage and in some situations productive explorations of historical debates using digital tools. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Digital Hampi: Preserving Indian Cultural Heritage

Introduction

The vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) is an arrangement to transfer meaningful information to vehicles/road-side-units and they always expect on-time data delivery along with security requirements. Because if users get bogus information, then there will be a hazard of serious complication(s). However, it is not an obvious business to send packets from an origin node to the target node in the public environment. Researchers designed several secure data transmission protocols to avail different features in VANETs. But some schemes are vulnerable to different attacks and this may lead to unexpected circumstance(s). In this paper, we suggest a secure geo-data transmission system for VANETs in which vehicles can deliver data with higher probability. This scheme is also protected against various attacks, i.e., impersonation, replay, chosen cipher-text, and modification. Further, the proposed protocol requires less execution time, low communication overhead, and storage cost compared to other related schemes. © 2018 IEEE.

Secure and effective geo-data transmission scheme for vehicle-to-vehicle communication

There is a serious mismatch between the growing traffic volume and the availability of resources to support the traffic. Some of the important reasons for this mismatch are the rapid development of our economy, increased affordability of our society, multiple vehicles per family, and so on. We believe that the mismatch will continue to grow and adversely affect our traffic infrastructure unless efficient traffic management solutions that include system integration, design, prediction, safety verification, validation, and security are developed and deployed. Security has appeared as an important issue for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Some security threats become more challenging task with the emergence of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication and Vehicle-to-Roadside (V2R) communication in vehicular networks. Addressing the security issues in smart vehicular communication systems requires new effective and efficient algorithm that encompass considerations of new security techniques, safety things, communication related resource limitations, and other related new performance metrics. In this paper, we recommend a unified framework and new metrics that combines integrated modelling, system integration and optimization, official certification and validation, and automatic synthesis approaches for analysing the security and safety of ITS and booming out design space investigation of both in-vehicle electronic control systems and vehicle-to-vehicle communications. Design and safety verification for vehicle networks

With the exponential increase in number of connected sensor devices for various smart infrastructure based applications, a huge amount of heterogeneous data are generated every moment. Data collection techniques play a crucial role in defining the application QoS. In this paper, we propose SDCF, a novel data collection framework to serve different applications used for smart building monitoring. Proposed SDCF adopts a context-aware forwarding strategy to ensure higher delivery reliability with reduced delay. The overall packet loss is much lower for SDCF as the design involves adaptive data forwarding technique coupled with data fusion. The effectiveness of the proposed routing mechanism has been established by a simulation based comparative analysis with AODV routing protocol. © 2018 IEEE.

SDCF: Sensory Data Collection Framework for Smart Building Application

Cognitive radio network (CRN) is made of numerous intellectual users with the capabilities of sensing and sharing in underutilized spectrum called cognitive users (CUs). The spectrum allocated to licensed users also called primary users (PUs) is not fully utilized. The cognitive radio came into the picture to fulfill spectrum’s demand by enriching unproductive bandwidth. However, the set of spectrum available to CUs varies time-to-time and space due to dynamics of PUs activities. Therefore, CUs’ spectrum allocation changes from the PUs and the resource to both customers distributing the licensed spectrum. To realize the concept of CRN, each CU is required to send its sensing outcome and individual information to the central cognitive user base station (CUB) in centralized CRN. But CUs’ dynamic environment and effortless compromise make the CUB susceptible in data falsification and PU emulation attack, which will deceive its global decision making and degrades the system performance. For this reason, an efficient trust management scheme is required to manage the CRN properly. In this paper, we design a trust-based method for centralized cognitive radio networks to achieve reliable practice of the system. A reputation-based trust management model in multi-hop cognitive radio networks

The rapid growth of information and communication technologies (ICT), opened a way to think the development of Smart city, which is introduced by the government of many countries, to improve the living style of the urban area. Nowadays the number of vehicles within a family are increasing day-by-day which causes the total number of vehicles in the country to increase exponentially. This growth makes control and management of traffic very difficult. In the vehicular networking field, VANETs (Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks) is a concept, which has the ability to improve road conditions, traffic congestions, weather predictions, driving safety, passenger comfort, etc. In VANETs ensuring security is a major concern because of the highly dynamic nature of vehicles. In this paper, we propose a lightweight authentication scheme for communication in the V2V scenario. We used cryptographic concepts to transfer the message between the vehicles. Moreover, through performance analysis we identified that our scheme performs better with different parameters such as communication, computation, storage, and energy consumption. © 2018 IEEE.

A lightweight authentication protocol for V2V Communication in VANETs

Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) is a growing interest and research area over recent years for it offers enhanced safety and non-safety applications for transportation. Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) is a developing technology that is yet unclear to many security issues. Security and routing concerns that are unique to VANET present great challenges. In this paper, we have proposed a scheme basically solve the black hole and gray hole attack in vehicular ad hoc networks. Black-hole and gray hole are the well-known routing attacks through which malicious nodes try to downgrade the communication performance of VANETs. In this paper, we focus on recent proposals that aim to enhance VANETs security and routing in systematic and architectural approaches. © 2018, Springer International Publishing AG.

Secure opportunistic routing for vehicular Ad Hoc networks

A challenging problem in cognitive neuroscience is to relate the structural connectivity (SC) to the functional connectivity (FC) to better understand how large-scale network dynamics underlying human cognition emerges from the relatively fixed SC architecture. Recent modeling attempts point to the possibility of a single diffusion kernel giving a good estimate of the FC. We highlight the shortcomings of the single-diffusion-kernel model (SDK) and propose a multi-scale diffusion scheme. Our multi-scale model is formulated as a reaction-diffusion system giving rise to spatio-temporal patterns on a fixed topology. We hypothesize the presence of inter-regional co-activations (latent parameters) that combine diffusion kernels at multiple scales to characterize how FC could arise from SC. We formulated a multiple kernel learning (MKL) scheme to estimate the latent parameters from training data. Our model is analytically tractable and complex enough to capture the details of the underlying biological phenomena. The parameters learned by the MKL model lead to highly accurate predictions of subject-specific FCs from test datasets at a rate of 71%, surpassing the performance of the existing linear and non-linear models. We provide an example of how these latent parameters could be used to characterize age-specific reorganization in the brain structure and function. © 2018 The Author(s).
