We develop empirical models using difference-in-difference method to find out how COVID-19 testing and infection rates impact the BRICS economy. Our results show that strict government measures, areas of poor people and people with heart diseases have resulted in high COVID-19 testing due to the increasing infections, However, economic development and population density are not found to be rather insignificant towards the COVID-19 testing rates. Hence, both from policy and pandemic perspectives, it is inferred that these developing economies need to divert more resources and infuse more investment in the healthcare sector in the coming days. • Governments must give due stress to the health sector along with development irrespective of nature of the economy. • Our results show that strict government measures, areas of poor people and people with heart diseases have resulted in high COVID-19 testing due to the increasing infections. • Both from policy and pandemic perspectives, it is inferred that these BRICS economies need to divert more resources and infuse more investment in the healthcare sector. © 2020

The nonlinear causal dimension in oil price and stock returns aspect is less explored in literature. This study provides such evidence by applying Hiemstra and Jones (1994) nonlinear Granger causality test to the VAR residuals in case of India. Our result indicates that there exists bi-directional nonlinear causality between oil price and stock returns. It implies that the lagged information of oil price and stock returns can be able to predict each other efficiently. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Nonlinear Granger causality between oil price and stock returns in India

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between the dimensions of the pre-purchase information search (PS) such as direction (reliance on the information sources-RIS) and pattern (reliance on the utilitarian value-RUV), moderating role of the online shopping experience (OSE), and their influence on the behavior of the socialization agents (family communication (FC), peer communication (PC), TV advertising-TVAdv, social media communication (SMC)) for buying branded apparel. Design/methodology/approach: This study used a questionnaire, and a total of 458 responses were obtained. A measurement model with the dimensions of the pre-purchase information search and socialization agents was analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis. The conceptual model with hypotheses (direct and moderated effects) was analyzed using a moderated approach using Hayes Macros. Findings: The findings confirm the significant influence of the dimensions of the PS (RIS and RUV) on the behavior of socialization agents for buying branded apparel with the strongest influence of RIS on SMC. The moderated effects of OSE between the dimensions of PS and socialization agents are found to be significant except for the relationship between RIS and FC. The direct effects of the RIS and RUV on the socialization agents are higher for consumers having high OSE and lower for consumers having low OSE. Originality/value: The findings contribute to the growing body of literature on the PS, highlighting the importance of consumer socialization for the purchase decision of consumers in emerging markets. No previous studies have applied a psychological approach to explain the variation in the external search incorporating the dimensions like direction (RIS) and pattern (RUV), which did not receive research attention so far. This study uniquely sets a new direction for the researchers by establishing a theoretical linkage between the dimensions of PS that can act as antecedents and can significantly influence the behavior of socialization agents using the consumer socialization approach based on the social learning theory. The results reveal the strongest influence of SMC and establish the moderating role of OSE for the buying decision of branded apparel. The findings are valuable for online marketers who must acknowledge that social media is the strongest platform for reaching customers and must create a formal page for displaying their latest updates about their products and services. Marketers must engage all the family members through online contests and feedback sessions for developing trust for online shopping platforms. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Purpose: This paper intends to explore the measure for aligning the goals of researchers toward achieving organizational R&D targets. The paper also explores the significance and ordering of R&D outputs and the factors that influence generation of R&D outputs, from the perspective of researchers working in the Indian public sector organizations. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected in five Indian R&D laboratories, and weighted average method Spearman correlation coefficient and rank regression were utilized for the analysis. Findings: The findings indicated that various groups of researchers prefer to target different R&D outputs and not all the factors are considered as equally significant in influencing the generation of R&D outputs. Further, the R&D organization should include preferred real factors while policy making for achieving collaborative efforts toward fulfilling organizational objectives. The set of selected R&D outputs and influencing factors were also ordered according to the average rankings given by the researchers. Practical implications: The findings can help R&D managers to identify the expectations of the researchers and include their preferences in R&D Planning. The study could be extended to a larger dataset of researchers working in other government as well as private R&D organizations. Originality/value: Hardly any studies were found that explored the preferences of researchers with respect to R&D outputs and influencing factors with respect to the Indian public sector R&D laboratories. © 2022, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Aligning individual and organizational R\&amp;D goals for self-sustainability: investigating preferences of researchers in selected CSIR laboratories, India

Cart abandonment is a phenomenon which has perplexed online retailers since the inception of online shopping. Over time, the current phenomenon has become even more complicated, giving rise to a newer form of abandonment, check-out abandonment. While cart abandonment is a known term in online retailing, check-out abandonment is still not much known. Analyzing the responses of 267 users shopping on one of the largest online retailers in India, the study used structural equation modeling to reveal the two types of abandonment phenomenon's and their underlining factors. The study further investigates the two type of abandonment phenomenon's and identify related drivers leading to cart and check-out abandonment. Empirical results reveal that cart abandonment is a result of multiple variables starting from cross channel price disparity, free shipping, ratings and review to platform aesthetic design. Whereas check-out abandonment, is a result of shipping policy and account fatigue. In addition, ‘single females’ were identified to abandon their shopping process before the check-out page whereas ‘married males’ were identified to abandon their carts post the check-out page. The study discusses contribution to theory and provides future research directions for marketers, especially online retailers. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

Foresight is the ability to visualize alternate futures and shape the direction of future events. Generally considered as an organizational capability, foresight can be the basis of sustained competitive advantage, and needs to be fostered by enabling employees to acquire, assimilate, and analyze information with a future orientation. However, research on what constitutes foresight at the employee (i.e., individual) level is sparse. This paper fills this gap by using a five-stage mixed-mode process to propose an extended foresight measure. This paper has implications for research on the individual aspect of microfoundations of capability building, organizational measures development, and foresight literature. © 1988-2012 IEEE.

Exploring an Extension to the Foresight Measure: A Mixed-Mode Study of Individual Managerial Employees

This study aims to examine whether the participation of 24 emerging market economies (EMEs) in global value chains (GVCs) enhance the economic upgrading in the form of improvements in domestic value-added exports over the period 1995–2011. To do so, first, the study explores the forward and backward participation in GVCs which shows an increasing level of GVCs participation. Second, this study empirically investigates the impact of GVCs on the domestic value-added exports using panel feasible generalised least squares technique. The results reveal that both forward and backward participation has significantly improved the economic upgrading in case of EMEs. Further, the results show similar findings across several subgroups based on incomes, regions and others. Policies to foster greater GVC participation can help EMEs to tap the potential benefits associated. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
