This study examines the price convergence across 28 Indian states and 7 union territories at an aggregate and subgroups level over the period 2011–12 to 2017–18. We employ a novel approach of Phillips and Sul panel convergence technique, which accounts for transitional dynamics and heterogeneity in the panel. The results suggest price divergence and evidence of clubs across Indian states at both aggregate and subgroup level. The outcomes of this study help policymakers in addressing the price dispersion across states, which in turn improves the market integration, allocation of resources, and standard of living. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Locating resistance to healthcare information technology: A Bourdieusian analysis of doctors' symbolic capital conservation

This study examines the road accident rates from 29 Indian states and 6 Union Territories during 2006–2015. In this paper, we have employed several empirical techniques such as regression, generalized method of moments (GMM), and threshold regression models to examine how education and attitude of the drivers impact the road accident rates. In our empirical analysis, we demonstrate that lawless driving is found to be positive and statistically significant while incorporating both state and year effects. We also find some interesting result in the context of education and road accidents. We notice positive relationship between higher education and road accident rates across Indian states, which tells us highly educated people are more prone to road accidents as compared with less educated people. In the threshold analysis, the study discovers the positive relationship between road injury and accidents caused by people with higher education, in cases of considering road injury rate from drunken driving as the threshold variable. There appears to be a large number of behavioral issues emanating from higher education, which contributes significantly to the road accident rates in the Indian states. Hence, there is a need for policy intervention. © 2020 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd

Guidelines for Conducting a Critical Realist Case Study

Earlier, people used to buy video games from local shops. Players used to gain knowledge about new releases from gaming enthusiasts, magazines, and friends. Nowadays, one of the most popular ways to buy video games is through e-marketplaces. People need not struggle to find a review of the video game of their choice. Reviews are now commonly spread across gaming marketplaces. They are used by customers, developers, and the marketplace alike. All information that is necessary for the decision-making is available on the marketplace. In this regard, sentiment analysis of the reviews may play a major role. Based on the review data collected from the e-marketplace Steam, the results show that magnitude of the text and sentiment can be used to predict the final recommendation made by the player for the video game. © 2021 IEEE.

Impact of Review Sentiment and Magnitude on Customers' Recommendations for Video Games

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have emerged as the most significant technologies of our times and are increasingly being used across businesses and industry sectors. Agaist this backdrop, banks and financial institutions are exploring tools based on AI to transform various facets of their business. These tools are expected to bring in process automation, cost efficiencies, improved decision making, product innovations, and enhanced customer experiences. This paper discusses various banking use cases and techniques, including the AI initiatives being pursued by Indian banks. Major focus areas for application of AI/ML in banking are - financial crime and compliance management, customer insight and relationship management, credit risk, and customer service. © 2021 IEEE.

Application of Artificial Intelligence in Indian Banks

Purpose: This purpose of this paper is to extend the model of goal-directed behaviour by including the potential benefits of webrooming and descriptive norms to scrutinise the consumer's rationale and intent behind webrooming. Design/methodology/approach: A survey instrument was employed to collect the data. A total of 324 usable responses were obtained, and the structural equation modelling technique was used for analysis. Findings: The results of the study revealed that consumers utilised the information collected online to strike better deals offline. Also, webrooming not only stimulated smart shopper feelings amongst shoppers but also assisted them in avoiding certain risks associated with shopping online. Besides, support was also garnered for informative and possession benefits linked with webrooming. The findings demonstrated the positive impact of attitude, anticipated emotions and perceived behavioural control on desire, which in turn positively determined the intentions. Significant mediation impact was also observed between attitude and intentions via desire. However, past behaviour was evidenced to impact only intentions. Surprisingly, descriptive norms emerged as a stronger predictor of consumers' desire as opposed to subjective norms, which was found to be insignificant. Research limitations/implications: Information search and switching costs associated with webrooming have not been considered in this study. A larger sample size would help draw broader generalisations. Practical implications: While online retailers can utilise the findings of the study to convert webrooming shoppers into buyers, alternatively, offline stores can use the key insights to retain webroomers. Additionally, educators can use the findings of the study to teach the students about the changing retailing dynamics. Originality/value: The present study emerges as the first one to incorporate cognitive, affective and habitual factors collectively for a better understanding of the webrooming phenomenon. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Condition Based Maintenance Policy for Crankcase Lubricating Oil in Diesel Locomotives

This paper examines the link between trade and economic growth by emphasizing on recent progress of global value chains (GVCs) for a sample of 58 countries over the period 2005–2015. The findings show that trade and in particular trade linked to GVCs spurs economic growth. However, the impact of GVC engagement on economic growth is diverse as we broaden our analysis to sectoral level. The study also notes that the benefits associated with regional value chains are higher. Furthermore, functional specialization in trade also plays a key role in improving growth. Therefore, policies to promote the GVC engagement and strengthening the domestic fundamentals should be the aim for countries to further benefit from trade. © 2021 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Do global value chains enhance or slog economic growth?

Purpose: This study aims to examine the Lumpkin and Dess (1996) conceptualization of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) in an emerging economy, focusing on India. It ascertains the dimensions of EO that are valuable in securing superior firm performance in emerging economies, which might differ from a developed market setting. It further examines the difference in the significance of dimensions between the manufacturing and services industry. Design/methodology/approach: A novel primary data set consisting of responses from 228 new ventures incorporated in India was created through an online questionnaire survey following the tailored design method principles. A disaggregated approach was adopted and the data were analyzed using multiple regression in SPSS 21. Findings: Among the dimensions of EO, competitive aggressiveness positively affected new venture performance, whereas proactiveness did not show any effect. Autonomy also exhibited a positive impact, except for new venture growth in manufacturing firms. Innovativeness exhibited partial support, only for the effectiveness of service firms. Risking-taking exhibited a negative effect on performance, particularly for manufacturing firms. Practical implications: The findings guide entrepreneurs and managers operating their new ventures in emerging economies by suggesting the dimensions that are most likely to benefit firm performance and those that might be detrimental. Originality/value: This study empirically validates the multidimensional conceptualization of EO in India and extends previous studies, which have typically focused on an aggregated EO scale. This study’s findings attest that the manifestation of EO in emerging economies might be different compared to mature economies. The contrast between the manufacturing and service sectors is also shown. © 2021, Emerald Publishing Limited.
