Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine how the various perceived risk facets such as financial risk, performance risk, psychological risk, social risk, and physical risk influence the Indian consumers’ perceived overall risk during the purchase of green products such as energy-efficient LED light bulbs. Design/methodology/approach: A self-administered questionnaire comprising a total of 29 items was employed over a sample of 272 respondents. The structural equation modeling using partial least squares was used for data analysis. Findings: Psychological risk emerged as the most influential of the various risk facets in affecting perceived overall risk. Financial, physical, and performance risks emerged as the second, third, and fourth most influential risk facets, respectively, which affect the perceived overall risk. Surprisingly, social risk did not emerge as an influential facet when it comes to affecting perceived overall risk. Further, psychological and financial risks appeared to have a positive medium-level influence on the perceived overall risk, whereas physical and performance risks appeared to have a positive weak influence on the perceived overall risks. The influence of financial risk on the perceived overall risk was found to be partially mediated by performance risk. Originality/value: The study is unique in the sense that it reflects the risk perception of potential consumers in one of the largest emerging markets of the world, when it comes to purchase of green products. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Factors influencing productivity of researchers: a study of select public sector R\&amp;D laboratories in India

Purpose: Recent statistics concerning webrooming shoppers is indicative of the trending webrooming phenomenon, and points toward the dire need for the addressal of the issue. The purpose of this paper is to reason the consumer’s intentional visit to an online store prior to making purchases offline by linking it with perceived channel benefits and uncertainty reduction approach through an application of the theory of planned behavior. Design/methodology/approach: A survey instrument was administered online, and a total of 374 responses were obtained. Respondents were queried with respect to the webrooming sequence, if at all they were into webrooming. The PLS-SEM was used to test the formulated hypotheses. Findings: The factor “Access to reviews online” emerged as the prime perceived search benefit which drives consumers’ to first visit an online store, while factors like “access to touch and feel the product,” “better post-purchase services offline” and “immediate possession of product” induced customers to later purchase offline. Factors like “E-distrust” and “perceived risks related to purchasing online” notably determined consumer’s movement to the physical store for purchasing the product in the second phase of the webrooming sequence. Research limitations/implications: A small sample size limits the authors from drawing definitive generalizations. Due to the lack of studies, individually examining webrooming conduct, a prior qualitative exploration can be conducted to draw more insights. Practical implications: The findings of the study can be utilized by the online retailers for devising strategies to push the webroomers to make purchases online. Social implications: The study creates awareness as to what motivates consumers to webroom, which has been realized as one of the serious issues being faced by the online retailers today. Originality/value: This study addresses a key concern “webrooming phenomenon,” which has emerged as a critical challenge in the present retailing dynamics. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Consumer's webrooming conduct: an explanation using the theory of planned behavior

There are good numbers of success stories of social enterprises in India such as Arvind Eye Centre, Barefoot, Farm2Food Foundation, AYZH, Jaipur rugs and Selco Solar. There is a need to the number of such social enterprises in India. This chapter discusses the various factors that affect an individual's intention to become a social entrepreneur. This study, conducted among students of India's leading technical institutions, indicates that self-efficacy was found to be the strongest predictor of entrepreneurial intention. © The Author(s) 2018.

Factors affecting individual's intention to become a social entrepreneur

Research Summary: This article examines the adaptation process of a large manufacturer in the Indian steel industry faced with radical sociopolitical shifts in the external ecosystem. It uses the Bower-Burgelman process model in combination with Bourdieu's praxis theory to explain the emergence of competing managerial initiatives and associated contests in the company's internal ecology of strategy-making in terms of socially acquired dispositions. It illuminates process–practice pathways through which top management's resource allocation supported changes in the efficacy of the different forms of capital of the contesting managerial classes, thereby legitimizing the daily “doings” of the rising class and institutionalizing a (re)defined adaptive rule structure. Managerial Summary: How do managers’ early influences, including family upbringing and schooling, bear upon organization's renewal strategy? Our study finds that during discontinuities imposed by socioeconomic upheavals, when organizational performance flounders, managerial initiatives are driven by deepest dispositions derived from early age socialization. Competing managerial fractions jostle to impose practices favorable to their longstanding preferences by putting their weight behind preferred product-market choices and seeking appropriate changes in the ineffective internal rule structure. Administration's challenge lies in leveraging internal contests to iteratively allocate resources in search of winning dispositions and configurations aligned with evolving social relations in the external environment. Internal availability of managerial groups from diverse social origins is crucial for the administration to reclaim organizational advantage by arbitrating between contesting practices and practitioner fortunes. Evolving efficacy of managerial capital, contesting managerial practices, and the process of strategic renewal

Enterprise Systems (ES) are often presented as a driver for business by providing business process integration and utilisation of technology in organising. However, the majority of the ES research is centred on the implementation phase and pre-implementation and post-implementation phases remain largely ignored. Another gap in the existing literature is that it usually ignores the implementation context in theorising. This study focuses on the procurement process of a public service organisation and analyses three instances of ES procurement in the case organisation. The data collection and analysis are conducted using the theoretical lens of socio-technical systems (STS) theory. It notes that while the work-system level and organisation-system level factors play some role in the ES procurement, macrosocial level factors (institutional context and the ES market) play a more important role in the public service context. It also notes the demonstrative nature of certain elements of the ES procurement process in public service organisations. In this way, this study brings out the complexity of ES procurement in public service organisations that result from the interplay of factors operating at work-system, organisational, and macro levels. © 26th European Conference on Information Systems: Beyond Digitization - Facets of Socio-Technical Change, ECIS 2018. Factors Influencing Enterprise Systems Procurement in Public Service Organisations: A Socio-Technical Case Study

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to draw qualitative insights about Indian rural markets and marketing. First, the key aspirations of the rural customers are listed; then the paper explores an understanding about this potential market among marketing professionals; and finally, issues and concerns of customers in the Indian rural market are discussed. Design/methodology/approach: In order to achieve the objectives, qualitative methodologies were used. An interview approach was adopted to identify the aspirations of rural customers. To draw insights into the perspectives of marketing professionals, focus group discussions (FGDs) and open online responses along with content analysis were used. FGDs were conducted to obtain insights pertaining to issues and concern from rural customers. Findings: The paper enlists and ranks the key aspirations of Indian rural customers; a well-furnished concrete house tops the list followed by acquisition of land and property. The marketing professionals discuss their understanding of rural markets from the perspective of brand consciousness to the wave of changes they see. The rural customers speak about how children are new opinion leaders to the cultural threat they perceive. Research limitations/implications: The Indian rural market, where roughly 12 percent of the global population resides, provides umpteen business opportunities. An understanding of the rural market would help marketers and business organizations build appropriate market strategies to tap the market. Originality/value: The paper attempts to explore an understanding on the Indian rural market, which has not been researched extensively. The research frame work is holistic and involves the views and perspectives of key stakeholders. © 2018, Emerald Publishing Limited.

Exploration of Indian rural markets and marketing

The value of perishable products is most affected by the time delays in a supply chain. A major issue is how to integrate the existing practices in production, inventory holding and distribution, besides considering the perishable nature of the products, so as to deliver an optimised policy for the perishable commodities. Standard inventory control models are often not adequate for perishable products and there is a need for a new integrated model to focus on consolidation of production, inventory and distribution processes. We develop such a mathematical model to search for an optimal integrated inventory policy for perishable items in a multi-stage supply chain. We specifically assume the exponential deterioration rate so as to be consistent with the growth rate of the micro-organisms responsible for deterioration. We propose and analyse some general properties of the model and apply it to a three-stage supply chain. We show that this integrated model which includes inventory control and fleet selection can be optimised with an evolutionary technique like genetic algorithm. A novel genetic algorithm that avoids revisits and employs a parameter-less self-adaptive mutation operator is developed. The results are compared with those obtained with CPLEX for small-sized problems. We show that our model and optimisation approach gives near optimal results for varied demand scenarios. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Optimising integrated inventory policy for perishable items in a multi-stage supply chain

We examine the dynamics of crude oil demand, crude oil price, and economic growth over the period of 1997–2016 in case of India. We derive the results from DNS unit root test and it indicates that all variables are stationary in their first order difference. Further, we apply Narayan and Popp (2010) two structure break test and find two break points, one in January 2002 and another one in November 2011 in case of crude oil price. Finally, the Structural VAR analysis depicts that there exists a negative and significant relation between crude oil price dummy and crude oil demand over the period. Further, the price elasticity shows that the percentage changes of crude oil demand response less as compare to the rise in crude oil price. This clearly suggests that crude oil price is moderately inelastic. This overall implies that global crude oil price fluctuation has not brought down India's crude oil import to a greater extent. In order to erase the bulging oil import bill, alternative strategies of producing methanol blended oil, revival of sick oil well production, and adoption of phase wise clean energy system could curb the import dependence of crude oil. © 2018

Is the demand for crude oil inelastic for India? Evidence from structural VAR analysis

Online food-delivery aggregators (OFA's) are expanding choice and convenience, allowing customers to order from a wide array of restaurants with a single tap on their smart phones. The business of delivering restaurant meals to the home is undergoing rapid change as new online platforms race to capture markets and customers across most of the metropolitan cities in India. The paper aims to investigate online food aggregators (OFA's) by proposing and empirically testing mobile app attribute-conversion model, to examine how mobile app attributes of online food aggregators influence the purchase decision of a consumer and subsequently lead to conversion. A mix method design was adopted for the study and a pilot study comprising of (n=350) respondents was carried out. The study focuses on four key attributes – visual, navigational, information and collaboration design and identifies the most important mobile app attributes while choosing a particular online food aggregator (OFA) in India. © 2018 Elsevier Ltd
