Emerging market of RFSOI applications has motivated us to come up with the robust compact model for RFSOI MOSFETs. In this work, we have validated the RF capabilities of BSIM-IMG model which is the latest industry standard compact model for independent double gate MOSFETs. Results are validated with the experimental S-parameter data measured. Model shows good agreement for different biases over wide frequency range from 100KHz-8.5GHz. © 2015 IEEE.

BSIM-IMG: Compact model for RF-SOI MOSFETs

In this paper, a behavioral model of threshold voltage for normally-off (enhancement mode) AlGaN/GaN based tri-gate HEMT is proposed. AlGaN/GaN based tri-gate HEMT devices have additional sidewall gates and show threshold voltage variation with decreasing device width. The proposed model captures strain relaxation with reduction in device width, which is one of the primary reason for change in Vth in AlGaN/GaN tri-gate devices. Model shows excellent agreement with state-of-the-art experimental and simulation data. © 2014 IEEE.

Threshold voltage modeling of GaN based normally-off tri-gate transistor

An improved analytical model for flicker noise (1/f noise) in MOSFETs is presented. Current models do not capture the effect of high-trap density in the halo regions of the devices, which leads to significantly different bias dependence of flicker noise across device geometry. The proposed model is the first compact model implementation capturing such effect and show distinct improvements over other existing noise models. The model is compatible with BSIM6, the latest industry standard model for bulk MOSFET, and is validated with measurements from 45-nm low-power CMOS technology node. © 2013 IEEE.

Analytical modeling of flicker noise in halo implanted MOSFETs

The most reliable way to assess the quality of images after a dynamic range compression (i.e. tone-mapping) is a subjective study. The goal of this paper is to determine, whether the preference of the participating subjects is significantly affected by the presence of the original high dynamic range (HDR) image displayed on the HDR screen or if we can obtain equivalent results from the test without the reference. For that, an extensive experiment using two different setups has been performed. The statistical analysis showed significant difference between evaluations and a Monte Carlo simulation proved that the absence of the reference is the factor of influence. © 2015 IEEE.

Influence of HDR reference on observers preference in tone-mapped images evaluation

Video quality measurement is an important component in the end-to-end video delivery chain. Video quality is, however, subjective, and thus, there will always be interobserver differences in the subjective opinion about the visual quality of the same video. Despite this, most existing works on objective quality measurement typically focus only on predicting a single score and evaluate their prediction accuracies based on how close it is to the mean opinion scores (or similar average based ratings). Clearly, such an approach ignores the underlying diversities in the subjective scoring process and, as a result, does not allow further analysis on how reliable the objective prediction is in terms of subjective variability. Consequently, the aim of this paper is to analyze this issue and present a machine-learning based solution to address it. We demonstrate the utility of our ideas by considering the practical scenario of video broadcast transmissions with focus on digital terrestrial television (DTT) and proposing a no-reference objective video quality estimator for such application. We conducted meaningful verification studies on different video content (including video clips recorded from real DTT broadcast transmissions) in order to verify the performance of the proposed solution. © 2015 SPIE and ISandT.

No-reference video quality measurement: Added value of machine learning

Perceptually adaptive sampling based on Weber's law has been used to reduce the haptic packet rate for efficient haptic data transmission over Internet. In a teleoperation, perceptually significant force samples are transmitted from a robot to a human operator. If the time spacing between two consecutive perceptually sampled kinesthetic force stimuli is less than the minimum time spacing (temporal resolution Tr) required in perceiving the jump discontinuity, then the second force stimulus will not be perceived even if it is well above the just noticeable difference. Hence, there is no need to transmit the second force sample to the operator. Thus, for the transmission in a teleoperation, the temporal resolution Tr needs also to be considered while effecting perceptually adaptive sampling. To the best of our knowledge, it has not been studied in the literature. In this work, we propose a statistical method to estimate the temporal resolution Tr. In order to achieve this, we design an appropriate experimental set up, and record the haptic responses for several users extensively. We also study the effect of perceptual fatigue on the temporal resolution Tr, and validate all results using the classical psychometric approach. © 2015 IEEE.

Estimation of resolvability of user response in kinesthetic perception of jump discontinuities

The paper presents the design of spatial control system of a large Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor(PHWR) with the constraint that the closed loop system be stable even if one of the output sensors has failed. Linear state models are obtained corresponding to the normal operating condition and different failure modes of the reactor. Each model is found to possess two time scale property. Application of a standard singular perturbation approach decouples the fast varying modes which are ignored to eliminate the stiffness. Thus a reduced model is obtained for each operating mode of the reactor. Convex programming is used to search for an output injection gain which stabilizes all reduced models simultaneously. This output injection gain is then realized simultaneously in all operating modes by a controller based on periodic output feedback. © 1999 EUCA.

Stabilization and control of fractional order systems: A sliding mode approach

The robust stabilization of roll angle for PGM-class missiles (precision guided missiles) is considered in this paper. The roll dynamics in these missiles are stable but have large parametric variations and slow response behavior. A novel method for roll-angle stabilization using higher-order sliding-mode control with actuator saturation is proposed in this paper. The actuator and sensor dynamics are considered, and the controllers are designed to meet specifications in the presence of these dynamics. © 1965-2011 IEEE.

Roll stabilization: A higher-order sliding-mode approach

The problem of pole placement in a specified circular region for discrete two-time scale system is considered. An algorithm for pole assignment in a specified circular region using a bilinear transformation onto the unit circle is presented for discrete two-time scale systems. We decompose the discrete regulator problem into two subsystem discrete regulator problem and then they are solved for optimal pole assignment in specified circular region. A fifth-order steam power system model is worked out to demonstrate the analytical development. © 1999 EUCA.
