A Monte Carlo TCAD simulation study of the impact of polycrystallinity and dielectric phases of the ferroelectric film on an 8/7 nm node NC-FinFET is presented. The study considers the random variation of ferroelectric remnant polarization ( P r) and the presence of dielectric phases. In order to keep the ferroelectric-film induced device variability less than those induced by other sources (RDF, GER, FER, and MGG), we found that the DE content must be less than 20%, which is theoretically possible, and the grain to grain P r variations less than 27%. While uniform single-crystalline ferroelectric film would provide the least device variation, we found 4 nm grains to produce less device variability than 5.3 nm grains due to the larger number of grains in the channel area. © 2018 IEEE.

Effect of Polycrystallinity and Presence of Dielectric Phases on NC-FinFET Variability

In this paper, SICL based 2 × 4 C - shaped Slot Antenna Array fed by Substrate Integrated Coaxial Line (SICL) working in the millimeter wave frequency band is presented. As a starting point for the design, a 1×2 C-shaped Slot antenna array is designed to be operated at 29.35 GHz with a gain of 6.6 dBi The proposed 4×2 C-shaped Slot Antenna Array exhibits high gain of 10.6 dBi at 29 GHz. The 4 sections of the slot antennas array is fed with in-phase field using a SICL power divider. This makes the complete design compact and low profile. The via section encapsulating the middle conductor strip of the SICL section provides good shielding of the feeding network. The designed antenna array has front to back ratio of 17.4 dB. The antenna is useful in LMDS band and possible 5G applications. © 2018 IEICE

Design of a substrate integrated coaxial line based 2×4 slot antenna array for millimeter wave application

In this paper, a compact and low-profile dual beam slot antenna array operating at millimetre wave frequency is presented. A 6x4 C-shaped slot antenna array has been designed using Substrate Integrated Coaxial Line (SICL) technology. The feeding section of the array is SICL based one to four way power divider that feeds the four 6x1 antenna subarray. The placement of the slot disturbs the surface current in the outer conductor which excites it to radiate in free space. The width of the SICL is much less than \boldsymbol{\lambda}-{\mathbf{g}}/2, this makes SICL compact as compared to other feeding networks, low profile and suitable for broadside applications. The proposed 6x4 C-shaped slot antenna array operates at 25.16 GHz with 3 dB beamwidth of 46° and provides a gain of 9.87 dBi. This antenna is particularly suitable for cost effective solution for multi user communication at millimetre wave frequency. © 2019 IEEE.

Design of a Substrate Integrated Coaxial Line based Dual Beam 6x4 Double Slot Antenna Array for Millimeter Wave Application

The aim of this paper is to provide efficient technique for optimum performance of HF dipole antenna with minimum height variation. HF Frequencies are generally lower at the night and higher during the day due to ionospheric variations. Large range HF communication experiences limitation due to use of either multiple antennas or changing the antenna height at regular interval due to variation in HF frequencies. Various past research work w.r.t. HF frequency tuning focuses on either electrically small antennas or narrow band, dual band frequency tuning. However long range wide band HF antenna frequency tuning needed to be addressed. In present paper a channel length extension technique is used to vary the long range inverted V HF Dipole antenna resonance frequency while maintaining the actual Dipole length. With the employment of channel length extension technique most of day/night frequencies can be covered in a particular time slot resulting in very effective and accurate HF contact with least variation of antenna height. Resonance Frequency shifting (-3 M Hz) from 9.5 MHz to 6.5 MHz has been demonstrated by varying channel length for 10 M Hz inverted-'V' HF dipole antenna. Extensive trials were conducted to validate the performance results and same found as desired. The research work carried out in this paper will definitely enhance the efficiency of HF communication for various time slots and provide novel platform for optimum operational performance of HF antenna specially in the field of Defence and national security. © 2019 IEEE.

Frequency tunable inverted-V HF dipole antenna using channel extension technique

In the recent past, data-driven approaches have gained importance for modeling and rendering of haptic properties of deformable objects. In this paper, we propose a new data-driven approach based on a well known machine learning technique: random forest. We train the random forest for regression for estimating the input-output mapping between discrete-time interaction data (position/displacement and force) collected on a homogeneous deformable object. Unlike currently existing data-driven approaches, we use at most 1% of the recorded interaction data for the training of the random forest. Even then, the trained random forest model reproduces all the interactions used for the training with a good accuracy. This also provides promising results on unseen data. When employed for haptic rendering, the model estimates smooth and stable interaction forces at an update rate more than 650Â Hz. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Random Forest for Modeling and Rendering of Viscoelastic Deformable Objects

In this paper constant reference output tracking is achieved using second order sliding mode (SOSM) control. To achieve tracking a new sliding surface is proposed and to ensure sliding motion super-twisting control (STC) is employed. The proposed sliding surface is more general, and it can be used for constant reference tracking in both minimum phase and non-minimum phase systems. The proposed method is validated on the unstable non-minimum phase inverted pendulum system and also the results are compared with the first order sliding mode control (SMC) in simulation and experimentally both. © 2018 European Control Association

Output regulation using new sliding surface with an implementation on inverted pendulum system

In this paper, we present an output feedback based design of event-triggered sliding mode control for delta operator systems. For discrete-time systems, multi-rate output sampling based state estimation technique is very useful if the output information is available. But at high sampling rates, the discrete-time representation of the system using shift operator becomes numerically ill-conditioned and as a result, the observability matrix becomes singular as the sampling period tends to zero. Here, a new formulation of multi-rate state estimation (MRSE) for a small sampling period is presented. We first propose a new observability matrix and then discuss its relationship with the observability matrix defined in the conventional sense. For the delta operator system with matched uncertainty, we have presented the design of MRSE based sliding mode control (SMC). Additionally, to make the control efficient in terms of resource utilization, MRSE based event-triggered SMC is proposed. The absence of Zeno phenomenon is guaranteed as the control input is inherently discrete in nature. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated through numerical simulations, considering a ball and beam system and a general linear system as a numerical example. © 2019 Elsevier Ltd

Output feedback based event-triggered sliding mode control for delta operator systems

In this study, a reduced-reference image-quality-assessment (IQA) method for screen content images, named as feature-quality-index (FQI) is proposed. The proposed method is based on the fact that the human visual system is more sensitive towards change in features than intensity or structure. Reduced features from the reference and distorted images are first extracted. In order to find the preserved features in the distorted image, a feature matching process with a reduced number of distance calculations is proposed, namely reduced-distance method. To reflect the importance of the matched features and their distance, the inner product between the normalised scale and distance vector is obtained. Extensive comparisons are performed on two available benchmark databases namely SIQAD and QACS, with eight reduced-reference, and nine full-reference state-of-the-art IQA techniques to demonstrate the consistency, accuracy, and robustness of the proposed FQI. The subjective evaluation of mean opinion score shows that FQI outperforms the current state-of-the-art IQA techniques. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2019

FQI: Feature-based reduced-reference image quality assessment method for screen content images

There have been several advanced topologies proposed by the community for micro-inverter applications. However, many such applications suffer from unwanted second-order harmonic current ripple at dc input. Moreover, in the absence of suitable passive filter or ripple compensator, the second-order harmonics ripple may propagate into the dc source. This results in several problems to the system, related to system efficiency, life, cost, size, reliability, and stability. This paper proposes an adaptive sliding-mode controller to shape the output impedance of the boost-circuit of quasi-switched boost inverter such that the propagation of the ripple from dc link to the dc-input source is resisted. The quasi-switched boost inverter is one of the advanced and suitable topologies for the micro-inverter applications. The adaptive nature of the proposed controller improves the transient performance of the system at the line-load transients unlike some existing solutions, which affects dynamics adversely to achieve ripple mitigation objective. The controller ensures voltage regulation within {5%} at dc link. The proposed control technique is verified using a lab-prototype of 500 W quasi-switched boost inverter. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Adaptive SMC for the Second-Order Harmonic Ripple Mitigation: A Solution for the Micro-Inverter Applications

Distributed control of converters is important to achieve plug and play functionality in a dc microgrid. It must ensure proportional load sharing among converters and voltage regulation of the dc bus. Droop control is a conventional distributed control method to achieve load sharing among converters in a dc microgrid. It is realized by reducing the voltage reference, linearly or dynamically, as the load increases. This degrades the voltage regulation as the overall bus voltage decreases as the load increases. In this paper, a sliding mode control based adaptive voltage tuning method is proposed such that the voltage reference is adjusted dynamically above and below the desired dc bus voltage to achieve load sharing. This results in excellent voltage regulation, also the proposed control is realized locally hence it facilitates plug and play functionality. The per unit input current value is exchanged among the neighboring converters. The proposed controller is validated through simulation. © 2019 IEEE.
