In my essay I would like to investigate the shift of paradigms in the relationship between theatre and politics that director, playwright and actor Ajitesh Bandopadhay (1933-83) was bringing into Bengali theatre. I would like to analyze how in the field of theater he was trying to form a threshold space: a threshold where politics and ethics, community and the individual, global and local can exist together as equals not imparting the hegemony of one on the other. How Ajitesh strove to conceive a theatre which puts forth itself as an analytical presence of life and society unmediated by an ideological or ethical regime. I would like to argue that it is in such a liminal presence in theatre, politics and the world; that the key to our future community of equality lie. This would also be an attempt at reclaiming the legacy of Ajitesh, whose influence on Bengali theatre has been hugely underplayed by the rather scanty posthumous attention being paid to his work. © Rupkatha Journal on Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities.

We study the dynamics of nonlinear oscillators under mean-field diffusive coupling. We observe that this form of coupling leads to amplitude death via a synchronization transition in the parameter space of the coupling strength and mean-field control parameter. A general criterion for amplitude death for any given dynamical system with mean-field diffusion is obtained, and these dynamical transitions are characterized using various indices such as average phase difference, Lyapunov exponents, and average amplitude. This behavior is analyzed in the parameter plane by numerical studies of specific cases of the Landau-Stuart limit-cycle oscillator, and Rossler, Lorenz, FitzHugh-Nagumo excitable, and Chua systems.

Amplitude death with mean-field diffusion

Recently, a novel mixed synchronization phenomenon is observed in counter-rotating nonlinear coupled oscillators (Prasad in Chaos Solitons Fractals 43:42-46, 2010). In mixed synchronization state: some variables are synchronized in-phase, while others are out-of-phase. We have experimentally verified the occurrence of mixed synchronization states in coupled counter-rotating chaotic piecewise Rossler oscillator. Analytical discussion on approximate stability analysis and numerical confirmation on the experimentally observed behavior is also given.

Experimental realization of mixed-synchronization in counter-rotating coupled oscillators

Who the researcher is and where the research is conducted are the two key dimensions of fieldwork. This note provides an account of how the researcher's outsider ethnicity in Gujarat influenced the fieldwork and ethnographic data. It further examines the multiple identities the researcher brings to the field, and how these insights vary as the researcher switches between identities. The manner in which the researcher presents these identities and the manner in which they are perceived or decoded by participants and stakeholders in the village community or social group influence rapport formation, informants' acceptance and access to ethnographic information.

Negotiating identities in a dangerous field

We investigate the effect of frequency mismatch in two indirectly coupled Rossler oscillators and Hindmarsh-Rose neuron model systems. While identical systems show in-phase or out-of-phase synchronization states when coupled through a dynamic environment, mismatch in the internal frequencies of the systems drives them to a fixed point state, i.e., amplitude death. There is a region in the parameter space of the frequency mismatch and coupling strength where system shows amplitude death. Amplitude death in nonlinear oscillators with indirect coupling

Objectives We conducted a case study of an urban immunization outreach strategy to determine the feasibility of the intervention and to measure administrative immunization coverage outcomes. Methods A multipronged strategy for improving immunization coverage in Urban Patna, India, was implemented for 1year (2009/2010). The strategy was designed to increase immunization sites, shift human resources, plan logistics, improve community mobilization, provide supervision, strengthen data flow and implement special vaccination drives. Results Over 1year, the coverage of all primary vaccines of the Universal Immunization Program improved by over 100%. Conclusion Coverage can be rapidly improved through outreach immunization in low socioeconomic areas if existing opportunities are carefully utilized. © 2011 Blackwell Publishing Ltd.
