In wireless sensor networks, communication cost is higher as compared to computational cost, so it is important to minimize the amount of data transmission to extend the network lifetime. To minimize the volume of data to be transmitted, data aggregation is mostly used. As sensor nodes are being deployed in remote and unattented environments, they are prone to node compromise attacks and various other security issues. Hence, it is mandatory that data aggregation protocols must be designed by considering security issues on priority basis. Although, there is a trade-off between data aggregation and security of data, but both aspects are essential. Therefore it is challenging task to maintain data aggregation along with security in these networks. Recoverable Concealed Data aggregation Protocol for Homogeneous wireless sensor networks provides both security as well as aggregation. Despite of its strong security mechanism, this protocol is prone to Packet dropping attacks. Detection of packet-dropping attack in recoverable concealed data aggregation protocol for homogeneous wireless sensor networks

This paper presents application of nature inspired algorithms for solving an industrial problem of power delivery network design. To achieve the target impedance in a power delivery network, optimum number of decoupling capacitors and their optimum locations on board are found from thousands of available capacitors. S-parameters based data is used for the accurate analysis. Three natural computing algorithms - Particle Swarm Optimization, Cuckoo Search and Firefly Algorithm are used and compared for solving this problem. © 2014 IEEE.

Application of nature inspired algorithms in power delivery network design: An industrial case study

Due to advancement in technology and higher demand of frequency, the effect of jitter components, especially inter-symbol interference (ISI), plays significant impact on performance of high speed serial links. The analysis of jitter components is useful for testing of high speed circuits. In this paper, an efficient methodology for estimation of inter-symbol interference using clock pattern is described and a brief overview of other jitter components segregation techniques are introduced. This methodology is implemented in MATLAB and the results are efficiently verified with other CAD tools such as Agilent ADS and with adaptive filtration method (also known as equalization method). The error percentages in proposed method are within 12%. © 2015 IEEE.

Estimation of inter-symbol interference using clock pattern

Proper transmission of high speed signal requires sufficiently high bandwidth of the medium. The reference planes play a vital role in achieving distortion-free signal propagation. In this paper a BGA package design exhibiting resonance conditions in insertion loss is analyzed. Analysis led to ground path issues caused by return current density congestions. Improvement in ground return path layout led to elimination of resonance conditions. Re-designed package is meeting the intended design target for HDMI 2.0 standards. © 2014 IEEE.

In this chapter, the problem of decoupling network optimization is discussed in detail. Swarm intelligence is used for maintaining power integrity in high-speed systems. Decoupling network optimization by swarm intelligence

Power line communication (PLC) deals with the transmission of data through the use of power lines. It is an emerging field of communication for the home area network of smart grid. The presence of the additive and multiplicative power line noises significantly affects the performance of PLC systems. There are two types of additive noises in PLC systems, namely background noise and impulsive noise. The multiplicative PLC noise results in fading in the received signal strength. The Rician fading model has been experimentally found to be applicable to the PLC systems and has been widely used in conventional and current literature on PLC. In this paper, we provide the performance analysis of a PLC system over Rician fading channel under Nakagami-m distributed additive background noise assuming binary phase shift keying modulation scheme. We derive the probability density function of the decision variable and the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). A closed-form expression of the outage probability of the considered system is obtained. The validity of the derived analytical expressions is closely verified by the simulated results. © 2015 IEEE.

Outage probability analysis of PLC with channel gain under Nakagami-m additive noise

We consider a non-coherent receiver architecture with low IF frequency down-conversion, complex band pass filtering and envelope detection for ultra low power (ULP) wireless communications. We model and evaluate the performance of ULP transceiver with IEEE 802.15.4q PHY packet format. Moreover, we provide a theoretical analysis of the image rejection properties of low IF receiver. We evaluate the performance of the low IF receiver via PER sweeps and ACI tests. Finally, we compare its performance with that of Weaver receiver. © 2015 IEEE.

Performance analysis of non-coherent OOK detection with complex BPF based low if receiver

This paper presents an approach for the detection and localisation of the power quality events associated with wind energy penetration into the distribution network. A standard IEEE 13 bus distribution network has been modified by adding wind and diesel generators for the case studies. The proposed test system is simulated in MATLAB/simulink environment. Voltage signals captured at nodes of the test system are used for power quality analysis. The harmonic detection has been carried out using Fast Fourier Transform and voltage sag, swell have been detected by voltage index calculated based on wavelet analysis. The unbalance in the system has been detected by the sequence components of voltage. The power quality disturbances associated with the events such as islanding, grid synchronization and outage of wind generators have been investigated. The detection of islanding, grid synchronization and outage has been proposed using sequence components of voltages measured. © 2015 IEEE.

Power Quality Detection in Distribution System with Wind Energy Penetration Using Discrete Wavelet Transform

This paper proposes the application of a super twisting algorithm based control strategy for the position control of a Stewart platform. The conventional sliding mode controller is making use of a discontinuous feedback control, hence the control effort is discontinuous in nature. The discontinuity in feedback control induces the dangerous high frequency vibrations called chattering, which is highly undesirable for practical applications. The proposed super twisting controller is continuous in nature and the chattering is eliminated. The desired position of the platform has been achieved using the proposed method even in the presence of matched disturbances. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been demonstrated with the simulation results. © 2015 IEEE.

Super twisting controller for the position control of Stewart platform

This paper presents a method of reduction for interval system. The denominator of the reduced model is obtained by using the concept of interlacing property of even and odd polynomials of the system denomiator. The numerator of the reduced model is obtained by matching interval time moments. A numerical example illustrates the procedure. © 1999 EUCA.
