The effect of corrosion on the magnetic properties of papidly solidified Fe-Si-B amorphous fibres

The dc magnetic properties of amorphous wire having composition Fe77.5Si7.5B15 have been investigated in its as-quenched and flash-annealed states under tensile stress (σ). A large Barkhausen jump in the magnetization M* is observed at the switching field H*. The variation of the switching field with applied stress is found to be more sensitive in the as-quenched state compared with the flash-annealed one. A linear variation of M* with σ is found in the as-quenched and the flash-annealed states of the wires. The results on the remanence and the coercivity of the wires are presented. The increase in the remanence with stress is shown to follow from the domain structure of the wire. © 1992.

DC magnetic properties of as-quenched and flash-annealed amorphous Fe-Si-B wires

A new tetrachloroferrate-doped (FeCl-4) salt of emeraldine (polyaniline) has been obtained in a non-aqueous medium. From elemental analysis and Mössbauer studies, the salt has been identified to contain iron exclusively in the +3 oxidation state. Data on temperature-dependent d.c. conductivity and dielectric constant measurements on the doped polyaniline salt in the X-band of the microwave region are also discussed. © 1992.

Synthesis and characterization of FeCl-4-doped polyaniline

The influence of the tensile stress on the flux reversal phenomena in as-quenched state of Fe77.5Si7.5B15 is investigated. A large and stable Barkhausen jump is observed at a field H*, called the switching field. The switching field H* passes through a minimum as tensile stress increases and the jump in magnetization M* at H* grows with stress. It is observed that H* of the sample can be modified by flash annealing under stress. The results on magnetic properties like coercive field, squareness ratio, power loss of as-quenched and stress-annealed samples are presented. The stress annealing induces elastic and plastic components in anisotropy.

Influence of stress and stress-flash annealing on the magnetic properties of amorphous Fe77.5Si7.5B15 wire

The stress-dependent AC magnetisation, remanence and susceptibility of three as-quenched and annealed amorphous wires have been studied. Instead of any minor loop at low field, high-magnetostrictive wires show a large Barkhausen jump when the applied field exceeds a critical value. The dependence of this critical value on stress has also been studied. The results have been interpreted by taking into account the unique distribution of internal stresses which produces two distinct radial and axial anisotropy regions in high-magnetostrictive wires. These two distinct regions are absent in low-magnetostrictive wires and hence their behaviour is similar to that of amorphous ribbons. © 1990 IOP Publication Ltd.

Stress- and annealing-dependent magnetic properties of amorphous wires

The tensile stress-dependent magnetic properties are compared between the amorphous ribbon and wire-shaped samples having nominal composition Fe81B13.5Si3.5C2. In the wire a large and stable Barkhausen jump is observed at a low field (H*). The field (H*) at which this large Barkhausen jump is observed depends very much on the applied tensile stress. The internal stresses and the hysteresis loss is found to be higher in the wire than in the ribbon. The observed difference of magnetic properties between the ribbon and wire-shaped samples is assumed to be due to the different internal stresses developed during preparation. © 1990.

Comparative study of stress-dependent magnetic properties of ribbon and wire-shaped amorphous Fe81B13.5Si3.5C2 alloy

The field-flash annealing combines the action of an electrical current pulse along the sample and the simultaneous application of a longitudinal magnetic field. It is concluded that such a technique gives rise to an improvement of soft magnetic properties such as coercive field and magnetic susceptibility. This softness is a consequence of relaxation of Internal stresses and the induction of axial magnetic anisotropy. Modification of the magnetostriction constant after these treatments is also reported. © 1990 IEEE

Field-Flash Annealing of Co-Rich Amorphous Alloy

The temperature variation (77 to 300 K) of the magnetization of a toroidally shaped amorphous Fe40Ni40B20 alloy is measured at different magnetic fields ranging from 16 to 30 Oe. The spontaneous magnetization MS at different temperatures (T) is estimated by the approach to saturation method. MS(T) is fitted with the equation MS(T) = MS(0)(1 - BT3 2 - CT5 2) which gives the spin wave stiffness constant D as 128 meV Å2 and the range of interaction 〈 r2 〉1 2 as 2.85 Å. © 1990.

Low temperature magnetic behaviour of amorphous Fe40Ni40B20 alloy

The spin transitions in two new cationic complexes of iron, i. e., iron bipyridine formate, [Fe/bipy/3]/HCOO/2. 5/HCOOH/ and iron bipyridine tetrafluoro borate, [Fe/bipy/3]/BF4/2. 2H2O have been studied by using Mössbauer spectroscopy. From quadrupole splitting values, at different temperatures, it has been established that both the complexes show the coexistence of both the high spin state and the low spin state at 300 K while complete transformation to low spin state occurs at 77 K. Both compounds were prepared by electrochemical technique. © 1990 Akadémiai Kiadó.

Spin crossover studies in cationic complexes of iron by using Mössbauer spectroscopy

Measurement of the magnetostriction constant of amorphous wire by conventional techniques is very difficult because of its small diameter. However, accurate determination of the magnetostriction constant is important in the study of amorphous wires. Here the saturation magnetostriction constant (λs) for a low-magnetostriction amorphous wire of nominal composition (Fe6.3Co92.7Nb1) 77.5Si7.5B15 has been determined by means of the small-angle magnetization-rotation method. λs has been evaluated to be 2.1×10-7 for its as-received state. The dependence of thermal treatment is also reported.
