We have investigated the structural, electrical, and magnetic properties of both sputter deposited indium oxynitride and Cr substituted indium oxynitride films as well as InN films grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The degenerate oxynitride films exhibit n-type carrier concentrations in excess of 10 20 cm -3 and remain conducting to low temperatures, while the InN samples have much lower carrier concentrations and are insulating at low temperatures. At the same time all of these films show a room temperature ferromagnetic signal, with saturation magnetization ranging from 0.05 emu cm -3 for the indium oxynitride and InN films to 0.30 emu cm -3 for the Cr substituted film. Low temperature point contact Andreev reflection measurements find a spin polarizations from 46 ± 2% for indium oxynitride to 50 ± 2% for the Cr substituted films. These results highlight the potential of nitrides for spintronic applications. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Ferromagnetism and spin polarization in indium nitride, indium oxynitride, and Cr substituted indium oxynitride films

The effects of process parameters for the in-rotating-water quenching technique have been investigated with respect to structural, magnetic and giant magneto-impedance (GMI) properties of FeCoSiB alloy microwires. Continuous and ductile amorphous wires have been found with the optimization of process parameters. The structural, magnetic and GMI behaviors have been evaluated as a function of wire diameter. The crystallinity of the wires increases with wire diameter, affecting soft magnetic and GMI properties. Consequently, it is found that the wire of 110 μm diameter shows superior soft magnetic and GMI properties. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Optimization of process parameters for developing FeCoSiB amorphous microwires through in-rotating-water quenching technique

Design tailoring of microstructured fibers for all-fiber mid-IR light sources through wavelength translation

We report an enhancement of the effect of transverse localization of light (TL) in the presence of a weak longitudinal modulation of the refractive index in disordered waveguide lattices. In our chosen lattices, tunneling inhibition along the length favors diffraction-free propagation along with the simultaneous presence of transverse disorder. Our results will be useful for tuning the threshold value of disorder to achieve localized light. © 2013 Astro Ltd.

Anderson localization of light in the presence of weak longitudinal modulation of the refractive index in 1D disordered waveguide lattices

A simple method for the preparation of magnetic nanocomposites consisting of NiFe2O4 nanoparticles, polybenzoxazine (PB), linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and LLDPE-g- Maleic anhydride (LgM) is described. Composites were prepared by forming benzoxazine- NiFe2O4 nanocomposites followed by melt blending with LLDPE and thermal curing of benzoxazine. The composites were characterized by XRD, DSC and TGA, FT-IR, SEM, UTM and VSM. The saturation magnetization of the composites containing 33.25 wt% NiFe2O4 was 7.72 emu/g and it decreased with decreasing amount of NiFe2O4 in the composite. The composite films exhibited mechanical flexibility as well as magnetic properties. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

Preparation, Characterization and Properties of Flexible Magnetic Nanocomposites of NiFe2O4-polybenzoxazine-LLDPE

We construct an equation of state of strange quark matter in a strong magnetic field within a confining model. The confinement is modeled by means of the Richardson potential for quark-quark interaction modified suitably to account for a strong magnetic field. We compare our results for the equation of state and magnetization of matter to those derived within the MIT bag model. The differences between these models arise mainly due to the momentum dependence of the strong interaction between quarks in the Richardson model. Specifically, we find that the magnetization of strange quark matter in this model has much more pronounced de Haas-van Alfvén oscillations than in the MIT bag model, which is the consequence of the (static) gluon-exchange structure of the confining potential. © 2013 American Physical Society.

Strange quark matter in strong magnetic fields within a confining model

Compact stars with strong magnetic fields (magnetars) have been observationally determined to have surface magnetic fields of order of 1014-1015 G, the implied internal field strength being several orders larger. We study the equation of state and composition of dense hypernuclear matter in strong magnetic fields in a range expected in the interiors of magnetars. Within the non-linear Boguta-Bodmer-Walecka model we find that the magnetic field has sizable influence on the properties of matter for central magnetic field B ≥ 1017 G, in particular the matter properties become anisotropic. Moreover, for the central fields B ≥ 1018 G, the magnetized hypernuclear matter shows instability, which is signalled by the negative sign of the derivative of the pressure parallel to the field with respect to the density, and leads to vanishing parallel pressure at the critical value Bcr ≃ 1019 G. This limits the range of admissible homogeneously distributed fields in magnetars to fields below the critical value Bcr. © 2012 Elsevier B.V..

Hypernuclear matter in strong magnetic field

The proposed Embroidery Wearable Snail Antenna (EWSA) is capable for dual-band operation which is 1.575 GHz for GPS application and 1.8 GHz for GSM application. The EWSA is basically designed in circle shape at the centre but then subtracted by square shape at the upper and bottom. In seeking good results, the optimization process is compulsory where the width of squares hold the key of dual band frequencies and good gain values. The gain produced is as high as 6.649 dB and 7.826 dB is obtained at the frequency of 1.575 GHz and 1.8 GHz correspondingly. Moreover, flexibility in structure enables the EWSA to be easily integrated into safety jackets and rain coats for tracking, search and rescue communication purposes. © 2013 IEEE.

Embroidery Wearable Snail Antenna (EWSA) design

The nondetection of neutrinos coming from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) by the IceCube experiment has raised serious questions on our understanding of GRB’s and the mechanism of neutrino flux production in them. Motivated by this and the need for a precise calculation for GRB neutrino flux, here we study the effects of beyond standard model physics on the GRB neutrino flux. In the internal shock model of GRB, high energy neutrinos are expected from muon, pion and kaon decays. Using the latest best fit neutrino oscillation parameters, we compute the expected flux on earth for standard as well as non-standard oscillation scenarios. Among the non-standard scenarios, we consider neutrino decay, pseudo-dirac nature of neutrinos and presence of one eV scale light sterile neutrino. Incorporating other experimental bounds on these new physics scenarios, we show that neutrino decay scenario can significantly alter the neutrino flux on earth from the expected ones whereas the corresponding changes for pseudo-dirac and sterile neutrino cases are moderate. © 2013 Sociedade Brasileira de Fisica. Effects of beyond standard model physics on GRB neutrinos

We have used molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to study phase-separation kinetics in a binary fluid mixture (AB) confined in an antisymmetric thin film. One surface of the film (located at z = 0) attracts the A-atoms, and the other surface (located at z = D) attracts the B-atoms. We study the kinetic processes which lead to the formation of equilibrium morphologies subsequent to a deep quench below the miscibility gap. In the initial stages, one observes the formation of a layered structure, consisting of an A-rich layer followed by a B-rich layer at z = 0; and an analogous structure at z = D. This multi-layered morphology is time-dependent and propagates into the bulk, though it may break up into a laterally inhomogeneous structure at a later stage. We characterize the evolution morphologies via laterally averaged order parameter profiles; the growth laws for wetting-layer kinetics and layer-wise length scales; and the scaling properties of layer-wise correlation functions. © 2013 AIP Publishing LLC.
