We study the dynamics of nonlinear oscillators indirectly coupled through a dynamical environment or a common medium. We observed that this form of indirect coupling leads to synchronization and phase-flip transition in periodic as well as chaotic regime of oscillators. The phase-flip transition from in-to anti-phase synchronization or vise-versa is analyzed in the parameter plane with examples of Landau-Stuart and Rossler oscillators. The dynamical transitions are characterized using various indices such as average phase difference, frequency, and Lyapunov exponents. Experimental evidence of the phase-flip transition is shown using an electronic version of the van der Pol oscillators. The paper presents a novel model for loss less video compression. In this paper we propose some mathematical models, using cartesian co-ordinate system, that can be used for prediction. The models are based on our novel approach of explanation to the working principle of Median Edge Director(MED). Experiments have been carried out with these models and based on their performance, one of the models has been considered for the prediction scheme. Performance of the proposed prediction scheme is same as that of the standard motion compensation but at a very low complexity. © 2011 IEEE.

A novel prediction model for lossless video compression

After discussing the various changes that the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has undergone since its inception, this paper focuses on a relatively new proposal by the United Nations (UN) called 'Global Compact' (GC) and 'Millennium Development Goals' (MDGs) to reshape Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a tool for national and international development and its applicability in the Indian context. This study also critically analyzes the CSR initiatives adopted by Tata Steel Ltd in the light of this approach to CSR as a developmental tool. The data analysis is based on auditor's annual report and the CSR reports of Tata Steel Ltd. Rural Development Society (TSRDS) from 1990 to 1998 (post liberalization in India). The analysis ends with the conclusion that Tata Steel Ltd's CSR activities implicitly follow the MDGs of the UN as a developmental tool for Jharkhand. This paper presents a novel loss less compression method for video. In this work, we propose a novel method for finding motion compensated frame. This is computationally much efficient than other method reported in literature. After finding the motion compensated frame, we propose a new method for efficiently applying LS based predictor on the frames. The predictor structure uses pixels in the current frame and also in the motion compensated frame. Overall performance of the proposed method is significantly better than many competitive methods at significantly reduced computational complexity. © 2011 IEEE.

A novel computationally efficient motion compensation method based on pixel by pixel prediction

After the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) experience in 2003, ethics has found a place in discourses on pandemic planning and public health. It is no longer enough to merely have action strategies in a pandemic plan; both research literature and the World Health Organization recommend that one has to further ensure that the outcome of such action is fair to all concerned, and is in conformity with relevant ethical values and considerations. India's pandemic plan suffers from a glaring omission in this aspect. Taking strategies and responses during the 2009 A H1N1 outbreak in India as instances, this paper identifies the lessons to be learnt from this experience and argues that these raise ethical issues ingrained in pandemic planning which must be addressed. It ends with the suggestion that the Indian health authorities should add an ethical dimension to the national pandemic plan, as has been recommended by the World Health Organization and by post-SARS studies.
