Systems thinking approach for social problems: Proceedings of 37th national systems conference, December 2013

This paper proposes methodology for generic system modelling of high speed parallel interfaces. The paper also covers case study of Clock jitter failure analysis in Double data rate Physical layer (DDR2/3) in SOC environment. This Methodology involves breaking down the system in multiple components and generating models for each component to observe individual performance. System level response can be seen by combining them together. This is validated for root- cause analysis and corrections on a reference SoC along with its application environment. Using this methodology, Silicon results before and after corrections on SoC indicate desired improvements. The worthiness of this approach exhibits a pre-compliance design step to avoid silicon respins and failures.

Jitter failure investigation of high speed parallel links in System on Chip environment, modeling and mitigation approach

We report for the first time, development of an efficient ethanol sensor using mild functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). A unique technique to functionalize MWCNT is reported to enhance the performance of the ethanol sensor based on it. The conventional functionalization techniques tend to damage physical structure of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to a large extent and convert most of their sp2 bonds into sp3 bonded carbon atoms. This results in reduction of the available adsorption sites for ethanol vapors on the CNT surface and hence deteriorates the sensitivity. In this work, the functionalization of nanotubes is achieved through direct cycloaddition to π electrons of the CNT that does not hamper the physical structure of the nanotube. High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) and Raman spectroscopy studies were employed to confirm the appropriate functionalization for better performance of the sensor. Electrical transport properties of the composites were also studied to understand the quality of the established CNT network. Out of the other functionalization technique, Diels Alder cyclo addition reaction based composite sensor was found to exhibit excellent performance and has an edge over the other reported CNT based sensor. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Enhancement in the performance of multi-walled carbon nanotube: Poly(methylmethacrylate) composite thin film ethanol sensors through appropriate nanotube functionalization

This paper proposes a finite-time robust control law for a nonlinear, uncertain robot manipulator. Load variations and unmodeled system dynamics of manipulator are the primary sources of uncertainties. The dynamics of the manipulator is modeled in State-Dependent Coefficient (SDC) form to consider all nonlinear term in system dynamics. To control such uncertain system a robust control law is essential. An optimal control approach is adopted to design the proposed robust control law. The control input is generated by solving a State-Dependent Differential Riccati Equation (SDDRE) in forward in time. Here the analytical solution of SDDRE is used to compute control law. The designed control law ensures the stability analytically and numerically in the presence of bounded uncertainty. © 2015 ACM.

Finite-time robust control of robot manipulator: A SDDRE based approach

In this Paper, we have proposed a new captcha based on digits and symbols. It is based on the facts that it is difficult for the machine to interpret symbols and perform the tasks accordingly from two different datasets. We have also pointed out the main anti-recognition and anti-segmentation features from previous works and implemented them on our proposed captcha. We have also presented here the pseudocode of it, have done a security analysis and usability survey to firm our claims regarding it. © 2015 IEEE.

Fault detection and classification by unsupervised feature extraction and dimensionality reduction (vol 1, pg 25, 2015)

In this paper, a microgrid consisting of a fixed speed diesel generator and renewable energy sources (Photo Voltaic and PMSG based variable speed Wind Energy Conversion Systems) have been considered. The photo voltaic source is operated in a derating mode and the wind generator in inertia control mode in order to mitigate the active power imbalance in the microgrid. An advanced photo voltaic derating algorithm is introduced based on the rate of change of PV power with respect to the voltage. This coordinated control limits the ramp rate of the diesel generator and operates it in the economical operating zone. Coordinated active power control of Wind, Solar and Diesel Generator in a Microgrid

Field of electronics engineering is the most captivating among students, researchers and academicians now-adays. With the passage of time the requirement of advance tools for engineering is increasing. Many institutions and universities around the globe provide quality education to various engineering domain. Students although study theory courses but they also need exposure that how theory can be related to actual devices. Simulations play an important role for relating theoretical components to the virtual practical environment. Students of Radio Frequency (RF) domain and especially students that are studying Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) as courses, due to the extreme complexity of these devices, students need multiple tools to simulate the performance parameters. This paper highlights the most prominent tools that are used in the industry to design and implement RF MEMS structures. The role of Electromagnetic (EM) solvers and Finite Element Modeller (FEM) and its impact on electronics engineering education is demonstrated. Modeling approach of these tools are also explained. These tools and due to there huge advantages, electronics graduates should study these tools in their course curriculum to know how to tackle various types of RF problems and through case studies, it is demonstrated that how these tools can aid shift from just theoretical study to virtual practical environment.

Modeling method of finite element modeler and electromagnetic solvers for education and research in RF MEMS

This paper presents a low insertion loss capacitive shunt RF-MEMS switch. In the presented design, float metal concept is utilized to reduce the capacitance in up-state of the device. Float metal switch shows an insertion loss <0.11 dB, a return loss below 26.27 dB up to 25 GHz as compared to 0.81 dB insertion, 8.67 dB return loss for the conventional switch without float metal. OFF state response is same for the both devices. Further pull-in voltage of 12.75 V and switching time of 69.62 µs have been observed in case of the conventional switch whereas device with float metal have 11.75 V and 56.41 µs. Improvement of around 2.5 times in bandwidth and 4 times in input power has been observed without self actuation, hold down problem. The designed switch can be useful at device and sub-system level for multi-band applications. © 2014, Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

Design and investigation of a low insertion loss, broadband, enhanced self and hold down power RF-MEMS switch

In this paper thorough analysis of Series-Parallel resonant inductive coupling (SPRIC) has been presented using two-port network theory. Characteristic of SPRIC has been derived and plotted against load variation and frequency variation in MATLAB. Concept of forced resonance and natural resonance has been discussed. Important expressions such as current transfer ratio, voltage transfer ratio, maximum efficiency etc. has been derived and presented. To study the circuit behavior of the SPRIC a prototype has been built in the lab. Experimental results along with simulation results has been presented to verify the derived expression and characteristics of series-parallel topology. © 2015 IEEE.
