The channel in Fully Depleted Silicon On Insulator (FDSOI) transistors is completely isolated from the substrate via buried oxide (BOX) and from the sides by shallow trench isolations, which results in high thermal resistance (Rth). Further, Rth increases with reduction in channel length (Lg). In this paper, we have proposed a compact model for the geometry and temperature dependence of Rth in FDSOI transistors. The model is validated against experimental and Technology Computer Aided Design (TCAD) data. The proposed model is implemented in the independent multi-gate model (BSIM-IMG) for FDSOI transistors. © 2016 Elsevier Ltd

Thermal resistance modeling in FDSOI transistors with industry standard model BSIM-IMG

In this paper, self-consistent three-dimensional (3D) device simulations for exact analysis of thermal transport in FinFETs are performed. We analyze the temperature rise in FinFET devices with the variation in the number of fins (Nfin), shape of fins and fin pitch (Fpitch). We investigate that the thermal resistance Rth has nonlinear dependency on Nfin and Fpitch. We formulate a model for thermal resistance behavior correctly with Nfin and Fpitch variation. The proposed formulation is implemented in industry standard Berkeley short-channel independent gate FET model for common multi-gate transistors (BSIM-CMG) and validated with both experimental data and TCAD simulations. © 2016 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.

Modeling of nonlinear thermal resistance in FinFETs

In this paper, 2-elements and 4-elements substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based leaky-wave array antennas are presented and their performances are compared. The enhanced gain and scan angles for 2-elements are 15.4 dBi and 45° respectively and for 4-elements the same is 18.4 dBi and 30° respectively. In the final design of 4-elements array antenna, sinusoidal variation of slot length is used to reduce the side lobe level (SLL). A 1×4 cascaded SIW power divider with effective matching port is used to feed the antenna. Simulations of the antennas are carried out using HFSS software and presented here. © 2015 IEEE.

Periodic leaky-wave array antenna on substrate integrated waveguide for gain enhancement

Most of the research in sliding mode theory has been carried out to in continuous time to solve the estimation and control problems. However, in discrete time, the results in high order sliding modes have been less developed. In this paper, a discrete time super-twisting-like algorithm (DSTA) was proposed to solve the problems of control and state estimation. The stability proof was developed in terms of the discrete time Lyapunov approach and the linear matrix inequalities theory. The system trajectories were ultimately bounded inside a small region dependent on the sampling period. Simulation results tested the DSTA. The DSTA was applied as a controller for a Furuta pendulum and for a DC motor supplied by a DSTA signal differentiator. © 2016 ISA

Control of discrete time systems based on recurrent Super-Twisting-like algorithm

This work mainly deals with the sliding mode control for the sloshing liquid in a container using Collocated and Non-Collocated lineariztion techniques. The comparative study of these techniques is done for the first time for a slosh-container system, which represents a class of underactuated systems. A linear sliding surface based sliding mode control is derived for both the approaches which rejects the matched uncertainties or model mismatches and disturbances. Some remarkable comparative points are noted and highlighted with the supporting simulations. © 2016 IEEE.

Sliding mode control for underactuated slosh-container system using collocated and non-collocated linearization

In this paper, a finite time control strategy is proposed for the posture stabilization of a unicycle type mobile robot. The underlying bilinear structure of the chained system of the unicycle is exploited to develop the control strategy which involves switching between two continuous finite time controllers. The chained system is analysed as two subsystems. A homogeneity based finite time controller is used to stabilize the first subsystem in finite time and thereafter the Super Twisting Algorithm is employed for the finite time stabilization of the second subsystem. Posture stabilization of unicycle mobile robot using finite time control techniques

GMAW is a complete arc welding process of creating all types of metal joints of desirable quality involving virtually all metals of any thickness in any position. However, in doing so, there is continuous shift in operating point of arc and/or in arc characteristics leading to wide range parametric variations and disturbances injected into the system. Moreover, the process involves multiple dynamical events such as in arc characteristics, melting rate, dynamics of arc length and droplet transfer mechanism etc. for creating eventual welding joints where each event suffers from non-linearity as well as parametric variations. Control of such process optimally, though complex, but is essentially required as welding joints are made through indirect control of operating point of arc where for certain events feedback signals are difficult to get. Sliding mode control (SMC) concepts are considered as robust and have the ability to reject external disturbances and generate parametric insensitive response characteristics. This article, using already established control laws, explores the ability of SOSM in GMAW with robust performance characteristics. Practical SOSM controller design for short-circuit mode of transfer in GMAW using two sliding surfaces

The paper presents a detailed analysis of second order harmonic ripple in a DC microgrid. A boost converter feeding PWM inverter load is considered and equivalent circuit is proposed. The effect of the size of input capacitor, output capacitor and inductor of boost converter, on this ripple has been investigated. The proposed model has been validated through experimentation and simulation. © 2016 IEEE.

A comprehensive study and analysis of second order harmonic ripple in DC microgrid feeding single phase PWM inverter loads

Phase separation induced high carrier mobility and electrical stability are achieved in organic field-effect transistors using TIPS-pentacene:polystyrene blends. Rigid Si/SiO2 substrate was especially chosen to explore the phase separation. A vertical phase separation between TIPS-pentacene and polystyrene as confirmed from scanning electron microscopic image, evetually leads to excellent carrier mobility in polymer blend devices compared to that of neat TIPS-pentacene. Maximum hole mobility improved from 0.2 cm2 V−1 s−1 for neat TIPS-pentacene on SiO2 to 2.6 cm2 V−1 s−1 for TIPS-pentacene blends with PS, with average value of 1.5 cm2 V−1 s−1. Apart from higher mobility, TIPS-pentacene:PS blend devices also showed much lower decay in drain current (∼30%) during a constant bias-stress of 2 h, compared to neat devices (∼80%). Interestingly, This decay was fully recovered for blend devices under rest conditions. The corresponding shift in the threshold voltage due to bias-stress was lower for TIPS-pentacene:PS device due to better quality of interface as confirmed by lower values of density of interface traps and higher trapping time. High electrical stability in TIPS-pentacene:polystyrene blend devices was also supported by repeatabiliiy studies, which exhibited nearly unchanged device characteristics. © 2016 Elsevier B.V.

Phase separation induced high mobility and electrical stability in organic field-effect transistors

In foggy and misty weather conditions, the contrast and color of images degrade. These degradation occur due to the attenuation of light and presence of air-light, light reflected from fog particles. Attenuation reduces the contrast and air-light increases the whiteness in the image. In this paper, a novel and efficient fog removal algorithm is proposed. The algorithm uses white color balancing with inter smoothing for the estimation of air-light and restore fog free image. The proposed algorithm, unlike some other methods, is independent from the intensity of fog and does not require user intervention. Qualitative and quantitative analysis demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state of art methods. © 2016 IEEE.
