We propose an energy minimization approach to detect multiple reflection symmetry axes present in a given image representing fronto-parallel view of a scene. We perform local feature matching to detect the pairs of mirror symmetric points, and in order to formulate an energy function, we use the geometric characteristics of the symmetry axis. That is, it passes through the midpoint of line segment joining the two mirror symmetric points and is perpendicular to the vector joining two mirror symmetric points. We propose a novel $k$-symmetry clustering algorithm to minimize this energy function in order to efficiently find all the symmetry axes present in the given image. We evaluate the proposed method on the standard datasets and show that we get comparable and better results than that of the state-of-the-art reflection symmetry detection methods. © 1994-2012 IEEE.

Reflection Symmetry Axes Detection Using Multiple Model Fitting

This technical note proposes a procedure to control an uncertain discrete-time networked system using an aperiodic stabilizing input information. The system is primarily affected by the time-varying, norm bounded, mismatched parametric uncertainty. Aperiodic exchange of information is done due to bandwidth constraint of the communication network. An event-triggered based robust control strategy is adopted to reduce the effects of system uncertainty in such bandwidth constrained networks. In event-triggered control, the control input is computed and actuated at the system end only when a pre-specified event condition is violated. The robust control input is derived to stabilize the uncertain system by solving an optimal control problem based on a virtual nominal dynamics and a modified cost-functional. It is shown that the robust control law with aperiodic information ensures input-to-state stability (ISS) of the original system in the presence of mismatched uncertainty. Deriving the event-triggering condition for a discrete-time uncertain system and ensuring the stability of such system analytically are the key contributions of this technical note. A numerical example is given to prove the efficacy of the proposed event-based control algorithm over the conventional periodic one. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Stabilization of Uncertain Discrete-Time Linear System with Limited Communication

An efficient methodology for estimation of power supply induced jitter (PSIJ) in high-speed designs is presented. Semianalytical expressions for jitter are derived based on separating the large signal response and the small signal noise response and subsequently combining the results. Proposed simplified relations enable the designers to estimate the PSIJ based on a single bit simulation. Proposed methods are validated on several examples of voltage-mode driver circuits, designed in different technologies and in the presence of different types of noise sources. © 2011-2012 IEEE.

Efficient Modeling of Power Supply Induced Jitter in Voltage-Mode Drivers (EMPSIJ)

As urban living environment is becoming more and more complex; the road condition is becoming worse because of heavy traffic, increase of traffic accidents and high ratio of empty vehicles. It increases the cost of transportation and wastes time of vehicle movement. In highly populated Countries like India, during accidents, people lose their lives due to unavailability of proper medical facilities at the right time. This project senses any accident in the vehicle and intimates pre-programmed numbers like family members of the rider, ambulance, police station and nearest hospital etc. The GSM technology is used to send the position of the vehicle as a SMS to those numbers. And also the position of the vehicle can be obtained. Most of the companies want to keep track of their vehicles, with this equipment we can keep track of the vehicle by periodically sending SMS and the position of the vehicle is sent by the GSM modem as a SMS to the user. In this project an electronic device is installed in a vehicle and helmet to enable the hospital (ambulance-108), police station and relative of the driver to track him if he has been met with an accident and get immediate hospitalization. It is an embedded system which is used for tracking and positioning of any vehicle which is met with an accident by using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). This design will continuously monitor a moving vehicle along with rider wearing the helmet and report the status on demand and will send rescue message when met with an accident. For doing so a Renesas microcontroller is interfaced serially to a GSM Modem and GPS Receiver. A GSM Modem is used to send the position (latitude and longitude) of the rider. Design and implementation of helmet to track the accident zone and recovery using GPS and GSM

Modulation scheme detection of blind signal is vital area of research now a days because of the requirement in security and communication applications. In this paper, modulation class is identified based on the constellation graphical representation. Carrier frequency, symbol rate and phase offset are the essential parameters required for the extraction of constellation diagram, which are calculated efficiently. Efficient way of Classification between ASK, PSK and QAM is proposed in this paper. ASK and pool of PSK and QAM is separated using linear regression, and further classification between PSK and QAM has done using circle fitting.

Modulation Scheme Detection of Blind Signal using Constellation Graphical Representation

Small signal stability of inverter based droop controlled microgrid is a major problem from past decade. In this work, an optimal state feedback controller is designed to improve the stability of the two inverter based test microgrid. The detailed full order small signal model of the test microgrid is developed in state space considering network and load dynamics. Eigen value and sensitivity analysis is done to find out the states which affects the stability of the system and their respective participation in shaping the critical modes of the microgrid. Linear quadratic regulator (LQR) based an optimal controller is then implemented into the single inverter model which provides a state feedback to the open loop system to enhance stability. Eigen value analysis is done using MATLAB to prove that the designed controller improves the dynamic response of the individual inverter by providing sufficient damping to the oscillatory modes. Hence it increases the overall stability of the microgrid. © 2017 IEEE.

Quadratic regulator based optimal state feedback controller for stability improvement of inverter based microgrids

Solar panels installed over canals provide various advantages like excess power due to less temperature, reduction in the quantity of water loss due to evaporation etc. Water running in the canals also provides a source for small hydro power plants (SHP). This paper presents the control of SHP and Photo-Voltaic (PV) power of similar ratings operating together in a micro-grid. Limits imposed on hydraulic turbines due to cavitation have been considered. The SHP using synchronous machine is provided with integral controller and mechanical governor for frequency regulation in the micro-grid. The PV is maintained to operate at its maximum power. For part loading conditions, the PV is operated in de-rating mode so as to avoid operating the hydraulic turbine below manufacturer's operating limits and to maintain the desired system frequency. Non-linear models of the governor, SHP and the PV has been considered in the study. © 2016 IEEE.

Micro-grid operation and control of Photo-Voltaic power with canal based small hydro power plant

Optical pre-amplifier forms an important component of a free space optical (FSO) communication system for improving the receiver sensitivity. The use of an optical pre-amplifier results into amplified spontaneous emissions (ASE) which dominates the receiver thermal and shot noises. The square law photodetector at the receiver in a FSO system necessitates the consideration of Chi-square statistics for the decision variable contrary to the Gaussian approximation that is widely used in literature. In this paper, we evaluate the bit error rate performance of a FSO system assuming non-return-to-zero on-off keying modulation in the presence of ASE noise under the combined effect of very strong turbulence (modeled by negative exponential distribution) and pointing errors. A further insight into the system is provided by performing the diversity analysis. © 2016 IEEE.

Performance of optically pre-amplified FSO system under ASE noise with pointing errors

In this paper, we investigate the performance of power line communication (PLC) network in the presence of jamming attacks. The legitimate nodes of the PLC network try to communicate with the anchor node of the network while the jamming node attempts to degrade the system performance. The fading, attenuation and colored noise of the PLC channel with dependence on the frequency and transmission distance are taken into account. To investigate the jamming problem, we frame the adversarial interaction into a Bayesian game, where the PLC network tries to maximize the overall expected network capacity and the jammer node has the opposite goal. In the Bayesian game, both players have imperfect knowledge of their opponents. We study effects of total power available to the players on the equilibrium of the game by formulating it into zero-sum and non-zero-sum games, respectively. It is found that under some network setup, there exists a threshold power for which the actual gameplay of the legitimate nodes does not depend upon the actions of the jamming node, and vice versa. This allows us to choose the appropriate power allocation schemes given the total power and the action of the jamming node in some cases. © 2017, Springer International Publishing AG.

Game-Theoretical Analysis of PLC System Performance in the Presence of Jamming Attacks

A substrate integrated waveguide dual-mode single cavity filter with two inclined slots on top metal plane provides two transmission zeros. It is shown that the feed offset as well as the slot offset both can be used to tune the zeros over a wide range of frequencies. Leakage loss from the slot is negligibly small. Two bandpass filters are fabricated to validate the predicted zero variation. Further, tunability of the zeros is utilised to greatly improve the isolation characteristics of two X-band planar diplexers. Measurement results show that the isolation is better than 30 dB even if the channel separation is as close as 5% of the average frequency. The effect of packaging on the filter characteristics is also presented. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
