The gas sensing properties and topology of tungsten oxide thin films deposited by reactive-ion radio frequency magnetron sputtering at room temperature have been investigated. The abnormalities in behaviour of sensing film are observed when acetone gas is flowed over surface. The reduction reaction of surface and oxidation reaction of acetone gas have been studied. As the gas comes in contact with the surface, the molecules tend to reduce the surface, hence decreasing the resistance. The sensing film was annealed to 500 °C for 1 h for the purpose of achieving a suitable grain size for sensing to take place. Operational optimum temperature for sensing has been computed to be 260 °C. A grain size of 7.3 nm has been computed through analysis of AFM image and a film thickness of 100 nm has been calculated through surface profiler. The SEM image of the film demonstrates the grains developed on the surface. The XRD patterns reveal that the oxide showed up as WO2. It has been observed that the response percentage is approximately 30% for acetone vapour concentration of 20 ppm and approximately 18% for the concentration of 15 ppm. The response time of the sensor is approximately 5 min and the recovery time is 4 min. © 2017, Metrology Society of India.

Tungsten Oxide Thin Film Characterizations for Acetone Gas Detection

Recent advances in the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems state that the accurate Motor Imagery (MI) classification using Electroencephalogram (EEG) plays a vital role. In this paper, we propose a novel real-time feature extraction and classification architecture for four class MI using a combination of Kullback-Leibler Regularized Riemannian Mean (KLRRM) and Linear SVM. By using the KL regularization, the robustness of the features extracted to the noise and outliers is improved. The performance of the proposed architecture is analyzed on the four class MI dataset 2a from the BCI Competition IV. The performance analysis shows that the proposed architecture achieves an average classification accuracy of 74.43% and 51.53% for both the good and noisy subjects respectively. Also, the emphasis is laid on understanding the performance of regularization, and the improvement of robustness to the noise and outliers is demonstrated using the noisy subjects. © 2018 IEEE.

A novel classification for EEG based four class motor imagery using kullback-leibler regularized riemannian manifold

This paper presents an algorithm for detection and classification of transmission line faults using time-frequency analysis (Stock-Well Transform) on current signal obtained from both the ends of transmission line. The current samples are synchronized with GPS clock and their absolute values are added at each end, to obtained resultant current signal. The cumulative differential sum of the resultant signal over a moving window of half-cycle is compared with the disturbance threshold, to detect a disturbance. Subsequently energy of the signal over a half-cycle prior to the detection of disturbance is computed based on (Stock-Well Transform) and compared with fault threshold, to classify the disturbance into faulty and non-faulty transients. Finally, the faults are classified by computing energy of three-phase currents and zero sequence current in comparing with fault threshold. The proposed algorithm has been successfully tested for types of fault, fault impedance, fault incidence angle and fault location. © 2018 IEEE.

Detection and classification of faults on transmission line using time-frequency approach of current transients

This paper presents an analysis of impacts of various non-linearities on communication delay margin for stability of Automatic Generation Control (AGC) of hydro power systems using open channel communication which introduces time delay in the AGC loop. This delay may lead to system instability. The delay margin depends not only on the secondary controller gains but also on the various non-linearities inherently presently in the AGC loop. To study their impact, these non-linearities are one by one introduced in the AGC of a hydro system and their impacts on critical delay (delay margin) is studied by simulating the system in MATLAB / Simulink by keeping the secondary controller gains constant at a random value to observe the effect only of communication delay and the non-linearities. The non-linearities considered are frequency of AGC execution and governor intentional dead band and governor backlash. © 2018 IEEE.

Impacts of system non-linearities on communication delay margin for power systems having open channel communication based automatic generation control

This paper presents a Wavelet based transmission line protection algorithm which uses centroid difference for fault detection and support vector regression for the fault location. The sample of three phase currents signals of both the terminals of the line are synchronized and decomposed with Wavelet Transform to obtain the absolute values of approximate coefficients over moving window of a cycle. For the decomposition of current signal dbl mother wavelet is used. Two centroid at each cycle is computed using k-means clustering. The centroid difference is computed at both terminal added to obtain fault index. The fault index is compared with a threshold to detect the faulty phase and to classify the fault. The same approximate coefficients of post fault current transient obtain over half a cycle are used for the estimation of fault location with the help of support vector regression. A large number of case studies involving changes in fault impedance, fault incidence angle and fault location have been conducted to establish the performance of the proposed algorithm. © 2018 IEEE.

Wavelet Based Transmission Line Protection Scheme Using Centroid Difference and Support Vector Regression

In this brief, a non-identical gain based control design scheme is proposed to stabilise balanced collective formation in multi-vehicle systems, modelled with non-holonomic unicycle dynamics. Balanced collective formation refers to a situation in which the vehicles' motion causes their positional centroid to become stationary. This study mainly focuses on achieving stable balanced collective formation about the prescribed location of the collective centroid along with desired orientations of the vehicles. It is assumed that the vehicles are moving in a force field which is controlled externally. The proposed control algorithm consists of two controls - one of the controls, pertaining to the external force field, is directly applied to the system, and assumes the same value for all the vehicles. While the other control, which operates with heterogeneous gains, provides the steering force to the vehicles and is derived using Lyapunov analysis. Multi-vehicle formation in a controllable force field with non-identical controller gains

—An efficient approach for modeling of time interval error (TIE) due to noise in power delivery networks (PDNs), for current-mode (CM) driver circuits, is presented. Semianalytical expressions relating the PDN noise and TIE are developed based on midpoint delays of the rising and falling edges of the differential signal. The validating examples with CM driver circuits designed in various technologies comparing both the proposed and conventional approaches demonstrate a significant speedup using the proposed approach. © 2017 IEEE.

Fast analysis of time interval error in current-mode drivers

Sensitivity and response of metal oxide based gas sensors depend on various aspects including design as well as environmental parameters. This paper discusses the positioning of interdigitated electrodes (IDE) with respect to sensing film, for sensor response optimization. Two arrangements of IDE were considered, one with electrodes below the sensing film and other with electrodes above the sensing film; both schemes were further characterized for ammonia sensing, at different temperatures. Tin-oxide (SnO2) film was used as the sensing film to discern the gas sensing behavior of the two schemes. The film was also characterized by atomic force microscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy. The scheme with electrodes on top of the sensing film, showed about two times better response (∼2×) than the other case, when examined in the presence of 10 ppm ammonia (NH3). The same was earlier validated by the simulations performed using COMSOL. Electrodes on top configuration has shown improved response for hydrogen sulphide (H2S) as well. © 2018 IOP Publishing Ltd.

Effect of IDE placement on response in metal oxide gas sensors

In this paper, a fractal ultrawideband multiple-input–multiple-output antenna is proposed and its characteristics are studied in free space as well as in the proximity of on-body wireless body area network scenario. The performance of the wideband antennas are affected strongly in the proximity of the human body. Koch fractal geometry is used at the outer edges of basic octagonal geometry in the design, which helps to achieve desired miniaturization, wideband and stable radiation pattern. The presented antenna has a compact size of 25 mm × 40 mm. In addition, the effect of body tissues on antenna characteristics is analyzed by a four layered (skin, fat, muscle and bone) human tissue model. The comparative analysis of S21 is performed at a various body parts position such as abdomen, near forehead and chest with different antenna orientations. © 2018, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Performance study of a fractal UWB MIMO antenna for on-body WBAN applications

In this letter, we study the secrecy performance of the classic Wyner's wiretap model, where the main and eavesdropper channels are modeled by a general and versatile α-η-κ-μ fading model. Novel and exact expressions of the average secrecy capacity and secrecy outage probability have been derived. Previous results on physical layer security can be obtained through our newly derived expressions by specializing the model parameters. More importantly, the derived results are also applicable for the secrecy performance analysis of some field measurements (e.g., in millimeter wave communications), which cannot be analyzed by previous results. © 1997-2012 IEEE.
