This study identifies the first lattice decoding solution that achieves, in the general outage-limited multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) setting and in the high-rate and high-signal-to-noise ratio limit, both a vanishing gap to the error performance of the exact solution of regularized lattice decoding, as well as a computational complexity that is subexponential in the number of codeword bits and in the rate. The proposed solution employs Lenstra-Lenstra-Lov{\'{a}}sz-based lattice reduction (LR)-aided regularized (lattice) sphere decoding and proper timeout policies. These performance and complexity guarantees hold for most MIMO scenarios, most fading statistics, all channel dimensions and all full-rate lattice codes. In sharp contrast to the aforementioned very manageable complexity, the complexity of other standard preprocessed lattice decoding solutions is revealed here to be extremely high. Specifically, this study has quantified the complexity of regularized lattice (sphere) decoding and has proved that the computational resources required by this decoder to achieve a good rate-reliability performance are exponential in the lattice dimensionality and in the number of codeword bits and it in fact matches, in common scenarios, the complexity of ML-based sphere decoders. Through this sharp contrast, this study was able to, for the first time, rigorously demonstrate and quantify the pivotal role of LR as a special complexity reducing ingredient. {\textcopyright} 1963-2012 IEEE.

Achieving a vanishing SNR gap to exact lattice decoding at a subexponential complexity

The work analyzes the computational-complexity savings that a single bit of feedback can provide in the computationally intense setting of non-ergodic MIMO communications. Specifically we derive upper bounds on the feedback-aided complexity exponent required for the broad families of ML-based and lattice based decoders to achieve the optimal diversity-multiplexing behavior. The bounds reveal a complexity that is reduced from being exponential in the number of codeword bits, to being at most exponential in the rate. Finally the derived savings are met by practically constructed ARQ schemes, as well as simple lattice designs, decoders and computation-halting policies. {\textcopyright} 2012 IEEE.

Feedback-aided complexity reductions in ML and lattice decoding

Design automation, modeling, optimization, and testing of analog/RF circuits and systems by particle swarm optimization

Distributed Generation (DG) System based on renewable energy sources provides a good substitute to the centralized power generation systems which consumes fossil fuels and has imposed several problems on the environment. The safe operation of DG systems requires proper synchronization with power grids by using power electronics converters. The use of Phase Locked Loop (PLL) is an important technique for grid synchronization along with control optimization. This paper presents a comparative study between Dual Synchronous Reference Frame (DSRF) PLL based on synthesis circuit and Second Order Generalized Integrator (SOGI) based PLL. The comparative study has been made on the basis of how they track the phase angle during different abnormal grid conditions like voltage sag, line to ground fault and frequency deviations. The results are obtained from MATLAB/SIMULINK environment and are analyzed for feasibility of the study. © 2012 IEEE.

DSRF and SOGI based PLL-two viable scheme for grid synchronization of DG systems during grid abnormalities

A class of nonlinear uncertain systems with saturated actuator is considered in this paper. Sliding surface matrix is obtained using parameterized Riccatti equation. The proposed surface ensures that control limits are respected in a region of state space. This region can be made sufficiently large by choosing appropriate value of design parameters. © 2012 IEEE.

Sliding surface design with saturated actuator

Performance of pentacene organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) is significantly improved by treatment of SiO2 with octyltrichlorosilane (OTS-8) compared to octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS-18). The average hole mobility in these OFETs is increased from 0.4 to 0.8 cm2/Vs when treating the dielectric with OTS-8 versus OTS-18 treated devices. The atomic force microscope (AFM) images show that the OTS-8 treated surface produces much larger grains of pentacene (∼500 nm) compared to OTS-18 (∼100 nm). X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that the pentacene on OTS-8 is more crystalline compared to the pentacene on OTS-18, resulting in higher hole mobility. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Performance comparison of pentacene organic field-effect transistors with SiO2 modified with octyltrichlorosilane or octadecyltrichlorosilane

In this paper, we propose a novel method for image watermarking which can recover the original image after extracting the embedded data without effecting the original cover image. The proposed embedding algorithm runs in two pass. The watermarked image after first pass works as a cover image for second pass. In each pass, embedded data utilizes different prediction algorithm. First pass uses a highly effective method for prediction whether in second pass a simpler and less complex method is used in our work. Moreover, the proposed algorithm has simple decoder complexity. Our algorithm gives better embedding capacity and Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) than various One Pass algorithms. We also modified our two pass algorithm which increases PSNR value by sacrificing payload capacity. © 2012 Institute of Telecommunica.

An efficient two pass lossless invisible watermarking algorithm for natural images

Continuous foetal monitoring of physiological signals is of particular importance for early detection of complexities related to the foetus or the mother's health. The available conventional methods of monitoring mostly perform off-line analysis and restrict the mobility of subjects within a hospital or a room. Hence, the aim of this paper is to develop a foetal e-health monitoring system using mobile phones and wireless sensors for providing advanced healthcare services in the home environment. The system is tested by recording the real-time Foetal Phonocardiography (fPCG) signals from 15 subjects with different gestational periods. The performance of the developed system is compared with the existing ultrasound based Doppler shift technique, ensuring an overall accuracy of 98% of the developed system. The developed framework is non-invasive, cost-effective and simple enough to be used in home care application. It offers advanced healthcare facilities even to the pregnant women living in rural areas and avoids their unnecessary visits at the healthcare centres. Implementation of foetal e-health monitoring system through biotelemetry

A series of conjugated polymers has been synthesized by Sonogashira coupling of N,N′-bis(2-octyldodecyl)-2,6-dibromonaphthalene-1,4,5,8- bis(dicarboximide) and four para-diethynylbenzene derivatives: 1,4-diethynyl-2,5-dihexadecyloxybenzene, 1,4-diethynyl-2,5-bis(2- octyldodecyloxy) benzene, 1,4-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-2,5-diethynylbenzene, 1,4-diethynyl-2,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)benzene. The polymers display absorption maxima at wavelengths ranging from 530 nm to 654 nm with molar absorptivities ranging from ca. 4 to 7 × 104 M-1 cm-1. The peak reduction potentials, determined by differential pulse voltammetry, for polymer films varied from -0.93 to -1.14 V vs. ferrocenium/ferrocene with the trifluoromethyl-substituted derivative being the most readily reduced. All four polymers exhibited electron transport characteristics in bottom-gate/top-contact field-effect transistors, showing average electron mobility values ranging from 1.4 × 10-4 to 3.7 × 10-3 cm2 V-1 s-1. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Synthesis and characterization of naphthalene diimide/diethynylbenzene copolymers

In this paper, a novel method for finite time stabilization of a chain of uncertain fractional order integrator is proposed for the first time. This is accomplished by first designing a controller which is capable of stabilizing the disturbance free states of the system in finite time. Then a suitable sliding surface is designed such that when the system slides on it, the designed controller is transferred to act on the disturbance free states. After that, by switched sliding surface mechanism the remaining state which is affected by the disturbance is also stabilized. © 2012 IEEE.
