In automatic face recognition, the management of image database has its own importance. At present there are two large databases that are being used for most of the face recognition algorithms, they are FERET and XM2VTS database images. The preparation of image database contains several steps that are described in this paper.

Image Database for Automatic Face Recognition

With the Internet being a global resource, Web based applications need to break the barriers of language and culture. The core of an intelligent Web based application comprises an ontological description of the domain. A domain ontology needs a medium for expression, which usually consists of terminology borrowed from a natural language. Thus, a knowledge based application becomes susceptible to linguistic and cultural context. The authors present a novel knowledge representation technique that distinguishes between the abstract concepts in a domain and their expressions. It can associate expressions from different languages with the concepts in an ontology network. Non-textual symbols and media property specifications can also be used to express the concepts using this technique. The resulting ontology can thus be used in a multi-lingual and multi-cultural environment. An RDF based language is used as a vehicle for the knowledge representation scheme. © 2001 IEEE.

Knowledge representation for Web based services in a multi-cultural environment

In the biological evolution process, logical thinking has been the last to evolve and lies at the surface of our consciousness, its means and methodologies available for introspection. On the other hand, the intelligence required to interpret sensory signals and activate motor commands is so well known biologically that it is buried in the subconscious and is entirely inaccessible at the conscious level. The variation in human intelligence is usually measured by the ability to process logical information, whereas the other forms of intelligence needed in daily life are not normallyassociated with the word intelligence. In the recent years man wants to develop a machine having its own intelligence. He wants to make machine, to which he can treat as a real servant. In this paper a simulated robotic system is described, which can be used as a criminal-detecting robot. In this project, an attempt will be made to design a Robot and it�s software, which will have an optimal solution of conditions (for which the Robot is to be designed i.e. security). It will not only reduce the cost (the cost spend insecurity of VIP�s is very high) but also will increase the security strength and stop the criminal activities. It will take snaps of the people and match from its database to check for criminals. Thus, such operations with minimum errors will cause the better security. Computer vision concerned with the sensing of vision data and its interpretation by a computer. Detecting faces in images with complex backgrounds is a difficult task. The approach presented in this paper, which obtains state of the art results, is based on a new neural network model. To detect a face in an image means to find its position in the image plane (x, y) and its size or scale (z). An image of a face can be considered as a set of features such as eyes, mouth and nose with constrained positions and size within an oval: an explicit model can be used. The think and adjust himself in any condition, can take the optimal and possible decision. The Robot can perform only those tasks and take decisions, which are specified in its programming code.

Face Recognizing Robot

This paper is concerned with the development of a fuzzy-logic-based framework for segmentation of video sequences. We have proposed a scheme for fuzzification of the frame-to-frame property difference values using the Rayleigh distribution. The difference values have been characterized by fuzzy terms like small, significant, large, etc. These terms have been used to design fuzzy rules for detecting abrupt changes and gradual changes. Fuzzy rules have provided a mechanism for integrating evidences based on different properties. The decompositional inference strategy has been used for fuzzy reasoning over the set of fuzzy rules. Gradual changes have been further classified as fade-in, fade-out and others (including dissolves, wipes, etc). Experimental results have been shown that the proposed scheme can detect changes reliably. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

A fuzzy theoretic approach for video segmentation using syntactic features

In this paper we propose a reconstruction based recognition scheme for objects with repeated components, using a single image of such a configuration, in which one of the repeated components may be partially occluded. In our strategy we reconstruct each of the components with respect to the same frame and use these to compute invariants. We propose a new mathematical framework for the projective reconstruction of affinely repeated objects. This uses the repetition explicitly and hence is able to handle substantial occlusion of one of the components. We then apply this framework to the reconstruction of a pair of repeated quadrics. The image information required for the reconstruction are the outline conic of one of the quadrics and correspondence between any four points which are images of points in general position on the quadric and its repetition. Projective invariants computed using the reconstructed quadrics have been used for recognition. The recognition strategy has been applied to images of monuments with multi-dome architecture. Experiments have established the discriminatory ability of the invariants.

A framework for reconstruction based recognition of partially occluded repeated objects

Kinetoplast DNA from Trypanosoma evansi isolates of bubaline, equine and cameline origin were amplified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using 4 arbitrarily selected 10 to 11 base primers. Depending upon the T. evansi isolate-primer combination, between 3 to 8 reproducible DNA fingerprints of 300 to 1630 bp were amplified revealing a limited DNA polymorphism.

FACE RECOGNITION TECHNOLOGY: TWO APPROACHES

This paper presents a new model based document image segmentation scheme that uses XML-DTDs (extensible Mark-up Language-Document Type Definition). Given a document image, the algorithm has the ability to select the appropriate model. A new wavelet based tool has been designed for distinguishing text from non-text regions and characterization of font sizes. Our model based analysis scheme makes use of this tool for identifying the logical components of a document image. © 2001 IEEE.

A model guided document image analysis scheme

E-book refers to books in Electronic form. In this paper we provide a review of the technological issues involved in design and construction of e-books. We also address the issues involved in designing e-books in Indian languages. We have proposed a novel scheme for construction and delivery of legacy documents (in Indian and other languages) in the form of e-books with the facility of hyper-linking and indexing of various logical components in the document image. © 2001 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.

A new look at books: E-books

This paper proposes an invariance based recognition scheme for scenes with multiple repeated components. The scheme considers three component subsets which characterize the scene completely. Each such three component subset is reconstructed using single image based information. We have developed a mathematical framework for the projective reconstruction based on relative affine structure of each such three component building block. This is extended to the case when each of the components is a quadric. A set of projective invariants of three quadrics has also been obtained by us. Although the reconstruction scheme is general and applicable to all multiple repeated components, it requires the computation of infinite homography. The infinite homography and hence the reconstruction scheme are only image computable with the given information in the case of translational repetition, We therefore develop a recognition strategy for the specific case of translationally repeated quadrics. As a recognition strategy for scenes with multiple translationally repeated quadric components, we propose to compute and store invariant values for each such three component subsets. Experiments on real data have shown the applicability of this approach for recognition of aerial images of power plants. The discriminatory power of the invariants and the stability of the recognition results have also been experimentally demonstrated. © 2001 Elsevier Science (USA).
