I am a theoretical physicist who works very closely with some outstanding experimental groups. I am interested in and am involved in bridging the research to prototype phase in my core projects now. I have interests in nonlinear dynamics of granular materials, large scale energy harvesting, impact absorption, studying social problems such as partisan elections and terrorist attacks, and in quasi-equilibrium (a concept I introduced in granular physics about a decade ago).
Specialties: These are the areas in which I work -
dust filtration, ocean energy recovery, landmine detection using acoustic approaches, shock absorption and shock transmission, nanoscale printing, sound absorbing systems, etc.
I was a Jefferson Science Fellow at USAID between 2020 and 2021, My goal was to learn about how development works. A significant amount of my time now is spent on development related work. Currently the focus is on rural West Bengal. I work on women's issues, mental health issues, children's education, youth education, promoting local businesses, etc.
