Abstract
The microstructure and yield behavior of a high aluminum containing titanium alloys was studied. The shear transformations which occured during quenching or deformation were very sensitive to the alloy composition. It was found that the room-temperature deformation of the alloy in the water-quenched condition exhibited low yield stress due to either stress-induced martensitic transformation or movement of glissile martensitic interface.
